Warner Brothers and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for Director Richard Donner's classic 1985 film 'The Goonies.' The on-disc disc content is identical to that found in the wide release but does add a digital copy and subtracts many of the physical bonuses included in that box. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

The glossy and predominantly piano black front and rear panels will show fingerprints but are otherwise very handsome. The black is broken up by a
gray skull shape made up
of portions of a treasure map with small red accents. Across the skull's forehead is the film's title with a silhouette of the title characters appearing
above. In script and in that same gray color at the top of the SteelBook appear the names Steven Spielberg and Richard Donner. The rear panel is a
simple piano black color broken up only by four words, centered: "Goonies Never say Die." The letters are a similar gray color and the "I" in "Goonies"
is
a red skeleton. The spine maintains the style, with the film's title center in gray lettering. A Warner Brothers logo appears at the bottom.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The lone Blu-ray disc is situated on the right. The inner print is a two-panel
spread that features a well-worn, beige treasure map with all sorts of writing and symbology appearing on it. It's a smart, attractive inclusion and the
perfect fit for the inner panel. A billing block in script appears unobtrusively on the bottom left panel.

The film was previously released less than a year ago in SteelBook exclusively at FYE, so fans might rightly feel a little burned. And should the film see a 4K release in the future, there's a good chance this won't be the last SteelBook. For newcomers or hardcore collectors, though, this is a very nice option, especially for those not wanting the added space requirements for the bigger boxed set. Recommended.
