The Fog Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Dr. Stephen Larson August 31, 2017

Shout! Factory has reissued John Carpenter's The Fog in a SteelBook with new artwork (see Screenshot #1). First pressings are limited to 10,000 units, with presumably more on the way. While disc content appears identical to Shout!'s first release, the label has produced a different picture disc (see #s 2 and specifically 19 for a comparison). For my colleague Jeff Kauffman's thoughts on the film and a/v specs, check out his review of the Collector's Edition.

The Fog appears in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1 on this MPEG-4 AVC-encoded BD-50. The main feature boasts an average video bitrate of 30000 kbps. Screenshot #s 3-18 consist of frame enlargements from this transfer.

The Fog Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

I very much like the new artwork spread for Shout!'s SteelBook of The Fog featuring a silhouetted Stevie Wayne in the Antonio Bay lighthouse and the ship marauders rising from the Elizabeth Dane. If you didn't pick up the Collector's Edition or missed out on the first pressings of that release's slipcover, definitely pick up this cool package.
