The Fall Guy 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

87North's ('Nobody', 'Bullet Train') latest production 'The Fall Guy' 4K UHD disc receives a store exclusive steelbook release courtesy of Universal and Walmart. Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, and Hannah Waddingham star in this action-packed comedic love letter to stunt performers inspired by the classic 1980s television series of the same name which starred Lee Majors and Heather Thomas. This three-disc set (2 UHDs and one Blu-ray disc) affords viewers the option to enjoy the original theatrical cut and the extended cut (which is approximately 20 minutes longer), as well as an interesting assortment of supplemental features most of which focus on the film's amazing stunts. A Digital Code redeemable through Movies Anywhere is also included.

The Fall Guy 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras 

With artwork that is reminiscent of movie posters from the 1980s, the cover of The Fall Guy 4K Walmart Exclusive Steelbook features Emily Blunt's Jody Moreno and Ryan Gosling's Colt Seavers at the top, the world record breaking cannon roll in the middle of the image, and Aaron Taylor- Johnson's Tom Ryder and Jean Claude the attack dog at the bottom next to the film's logo. The artwork on the back is the silhouette of a falling man, which is simply the reversed and enlarged silhouette of the falling man in the center of the "A" of the film's logo. The spine features the film's title in large, easy to read black block letters. Opening the case, the Blu-ray disc (with the Theatrical cut and special features) is on left, and the two 4K UHD discs (one with the Extended Cut and one with the Theatrical Cut and the special features) are on the right. Each 4K disc is held securely in place on its own offset stacked hub. Underneath the discs is a panoramic image of Colt and Judy standing in front of the cannon roll that was Colt's triumphant return to stunt work early in the film. The steelbook has a brushed finish which, as expected, does a wonderful job of resisting fingerprints. It's a wonderful steelbook inside and out.

The Fall Guy 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

For fans looking to add this film to their libraries, The Fall Guy 4K Walmart Exclusive Steelbook is an excellent option, particularly for steelbook collectors. The artwork feels appropriate for the era of the source material and is evocative of the tone and tenor of the film. The Fall Guy 4K is a lively piece of escapist entertainment with enough stunt and fight scenes to satisfy even the most seasoned action movie aficionado and an interesting enough romantic subplot from an earnest and adorable Blunt and Gosling to separate it from other films in the space. As is the case with comedy, not every joke lands, but thankfully every stunt does. Even those not given to delving into the supplemental materials will be well advised to at the very least watch the entirety of the Stunts on Stunts: Breaking Down the Action to more fully appreciate the on-screen action. With an outstanding transfer and a powerful Dolby Atmos track, The Fall Guy 4K Walmart Exclusive Steelbook comes highly recommended.
