The Dark Knight Trilogy 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Two out of three ain't bad.

Reviewed by Randy Miller III September 10, 2024

Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy collects all three films in his mostly well-received saga: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises, each one proving to be massively successful at the box office while helping to bolster the now still-ubiquitous presence of superhero-themed entertainment in cinema, the small screen, and other segments of global pop culture. Released in a variety of formats over the years, the latest and greatest was a series of UHD/Blu-ray combo packs available separately or as this nine-disc boxed set; there's nothing new or exclusive in the latter... but nothing is lost either (unless you count bonus features from older DVD/Blu-ray editions including retailer exclusives, which I don't), and that makes it a very convenient way to get everything in one fell swoop.

For separate synopses and critiques of all three movies included here, please see Michael Reuben's reviews linked below; please note that in some cases, they also point back to earlier reviews. I generally agree with his assessments and might waver a bit in my overall star ratings, but we all know in what order to rank these movies by now.

Batman Begins

The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Trilogy 4K Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  4.0 of 5

NOTE: These screenshots are sourced from the included Blu-ray copies of each film.

For details about each film's 2160p/HDR10 transfer (none of which include Dolby Vision support), please see Michael Reuben's reviews linked below. I would personally rate them a touch lower, although that could be due to heightened expectations from the seven years that have passed since these films debuted on 4K.

Batman Begins

The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Trilogy 4K Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  5.0 of 5

These recycled DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio mixes are excellent and, again, more information can be found at the reviews below. Would an Atmos remix push things even further? Yes, but these are still 5/5 efforts in my book.

Batman Begins

The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Trilogy 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  4.0 of 5

This plain-wrap packaging finds all three films packed in individual keepcases (no slipcovers, sorry) with an outer slipcase that, while nicely reflective, is admittedly a bit on the thin side and features the familiar sleek Batman logo on the front with descriptions of each on the back. Individual keepcase cover art is identical to the separate releases, as is the interior packaging and disc storage. Not the most creative or deluxe effort, but it gets the job done.

On-disc extras are similarly identical to the separate releases and detailed below.

The Dark Knight Trilogy 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy was massively popular in its day and has endured on home video, which includes all three 4K/Blu-ray combo packs available separately or as part of this convenient boxed set. All have very good to excellent A/V merits and a solid collection of bonus features to boot. Amazon's current sale pushes it to the near-lowest price of just over $10 for each film. If that sounds like a good deal, this set is Recommended.
