The Chosen: Season Five Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman May 21, 2026

Angel Studios has released the fifth season of the fan-favorite TV show 'The Chosen' to Blu-ray as a six-disc boxed set. This set follows on the heels of the fifth season's standard and featureless 3-disc release. New extras include isolated score tracks, Biblical roundtables, a making-of, photo galleries, and fulls scripts for each episode. This is the fifth "special edition" release for 'The Chosen' following similar issues for seasons one, two, three, and four.

The Chosen: Season Five Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  4.0 of 5

The included screenshots are sourced from the various video-based supplements found in this set. Full screenshots from season five proper can be found by clicking here.

This special edition includes all eight episodes on four discs rather than the standard issue's three. Nevertheless, I did not detect any obvious differences in video quality. For a full season three video review, please click here.

The Chosen: Season Five Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  4.0 of 5

This new special edition for season five contains the same Dolby Digital 5. soundtrack from the standard three-disc issue. For a full season three audio review, please click here.

The Chosen: Season Five Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  4.0 of 5

This is Angel's special edition release of The Chosen' fifth season. It weighs in as a meaty six-disc special edition, though the extras are a little on the slimmer side compared to previous releases, especially on disc six. The packaging is similar to the previous special edition releases of The Chosen. I'll leave links to seasons one and two that offer good details on the box's basic layout, which is essentially unchanged, as well as dimensions, which are just about the same. Below is a breakdown and reviews of what's included, and where. There are no digital copies included with this release, but it does ship inside a slipbox.

Disc One:

  • Sounds of the Story: The episodes "Entry" and "House of Cards" are presented with the musical score and key sound effects only in the Dolby Digital 2.0 format.

Disc Two:

  • Sounds of the Story: The episodes "Woes" and "The Same Coin" are presented with the musical score and key sound effects only in the Dolby Digital 2.0 format.

Disc Three:

  • Sounds of the Story: The episodes "Because of Me" and "Reunions" are presented with the musical score and key sound effects only in the Dolby Digital 2.0 format.

Disc Four:

  • Sounds of the Story: The episodes "The Upper Room Part I" and "The Upper Room Part II" are presented with the musical score only in The Dolby Digital 2.0 format.

Disc Five:

  • Biblical Roundtables (1080p): While previous discs added the isolated soundtracks, this is the disc that truly showcases the meat in this special edition set. This disc exclusively contains eight roundtable discussions, each ranging from about 24 minutes to 47 minutes in length, featuring Dallas Jenkins joined by the show's biblical consultants: Father David Guffey (Catholic perspective), Rabbi Jason Sobel (Jewish perspective) and Dr. Doug Huffman (Evangelical perspective). The group discusses several events from the series and examines how the show presents the theology, culture, history, geography and politics of the era with each consultant offering their own unique perspective on the episodes. Included are Episode 1 (47:22), Episode 2 (34:17), Episode 3 (37:13), Episode 4 (34:19), Episode 5 (43:26), Episode 6 (37:07), Episode 7 (24:04), and Episode 8 (43:09).

Disc Six:

  • The Heart of Season 5: The Making of Season 5 (1080p, 29:42): Looking at the storytelling of season five; the various social, political, economic, and religious landscapes portrayed in the season; the making and purpose of various key scenes (cleaning the temple, Jesus' dinner with the show's female leads, The Last Supper, the garden); Nicodemus' return to the show; Judas' storyline; and much more.
  • Photo Slideshows (1080p): Auto-advancing stills with linger on the screen for a few seconds each. Included are Behind the Scenes Photo Slideshow One and Behind the Scenes Photo Slideshow One. Users may pause to linger on a specific photo.
  • Episodes 1-8 Full Scripts (1080p): Each episode script, selectable individually 1-8. The pages retain normal paper ratios, resulting in fairly substantial vertical gray bars on either side. Pages auto-advance, but users may pause to read.

The Chosen: Season Five Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.5 of 5

I wish there was a little more here to really drive this set home, but it's a far superior alternative to the featureless three-disc edition. Video and audio are the same. highly recommended!
