The Candidate (1972)

Bill McKay is a candidate for the U.S. Senate from California. Since he has no hope of winning, he is willing to tweak the establishment. But as his popularity unexpectedly grows, political and media consultants dive in to reduce McKay to a bland but electable figure the candidate himself no longer recognizes.
