The Boss Baby: Family Business 3D Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Neil Lumbard July 25, 2022

The Boss Baby Family Business 3D is an exciting and heartfelt animated family-comedy from Universal Studios. Based on the books by Marla Frazee, The Boss Baby Family Business 3D is produced by Jeff Hermann (Kung Fu Panda 3). With a wonderful cast including Alec Baldwin, James Marsden, Amy Sedaris, Ariana Greenblatt, and Jeff Goldblum, The Boss Baby Family Business 3D is pure family entertainment.

Boss Baby (Alec Baldwin) is back and more action-packed adventures await! Boss Baby continues his ongoing rivalry with brother Tim (James Marsden). Tina (Amy Sedaris), Tim’s daughter, now has an enormous role to play in the undercover BabyCorp alliance and she is on a secret mission. As one of the top undercover agents, surprisingly kick-ass Tina must stop the villainous Dr. Armstrong (Jeff Goldblum) from succeeding at transforming every baby into an uncontrollable brat! Can a future without bratty kids be possible or is it brat-zone forever from here on out?

The animation is exquisite and one of the best elements of the production. The Boss Baby Family Business 3D is a beautiful looking feature-film and the artistry on display in some of the best by Universal Studios to date. Under the art direction of Christopher Brock and Andy Schuhler, The Boss Baby Family Business 3D is a visual feast for the eyes with plenty of colorful animated backdrops and experimental sequences. The art style is impressive across the board.

The Boss Baby Family Business 3D doesn't phone it in.

The original score composed by Steve Mazzaro (The Boss Baby, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run) and Hans Zimmer (Dune, The Lion King) is entertaining and engaging. The music provides the filmmaking with a sense of wonder – there’s so much to appreciate. The score imbues life and wonderment in to the production (highlighting the characters and the zany storyline).

Featuring a story by Tom McGrath and Michael McCullers, the screenplay by Michael McCullers (The Boss Baby, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation) is one of the highlights of The Boss Baby Family Business 3D and there is plenty to enjoy about the charming writing. The characters are given nice moments to shine. The plot is pretty enjoyable and the villain character is well explored. While it certainly is a silly script (and some of the humor falls flat on occasion), the story is entertaining.

Director Tom McGrath (The Boss Baby, Madagascar) made an enjoyable sequel to the original hit. Featuring even more interesting visuals and a more engaging plot (compared to the original), the franchise finds even more solid footing with the second outing. The Boss Baby Family Business 3D is warmhearted family entertainment with plenty to offer audiences of all ages. Charming, delightful, energetic, and surprisingly hip.

The Boss Baby: Family Business 3D Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  5.0 of 5

Arriving on 3D Blu-ray, The Boss Baby: Family Business is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 MVC encoded high definition in the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.39:1 widescreen. The presentation is outstanding: a visually rewarding 3D encode any fan of the medium should consider a must-see. The 3D visuals are breathtaking and immersive. The 3D has outstanding depth layers and the image seems to "pop" consistently throughout the entire presentation. There are zero issues with ghosting or haloing. Everything looks pristine and crisp throughout the transfer. The 3D effects are great, too: with sequences showing even more 3D creativity than the original. Colors are vibrant and beautiful.

The Boss Baby: Family Business 3D Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  4.5 of 5

The release is presented in Dolby Atmos. The lossless audio presentation is engaging and makes the viewing experience all the more enjoyable. The atmospheric audio brings one closer to the story: engaging all auditory senses for a truly immersive experience. The score sounds crisp and the soundstage is lively (with plenty of exciting sound effects). The action-packed fun soars with worthwhile LFE. A worthwhile audio presentation and a good match to the high quality 3D visuals.

The animation is outstanding and showcases an incredible array of vibrant colors.
