The Bad Guys 3D Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Neil Lumbard July 21, 2025

The Bad Guys 3D is an exciting and memorable action-comedy gem. The animated family film is adapted from the series of books written by Aaron Blabey. Executive produced by Aaron Blabey (The Bad Guys 2, Thelma the Unicorn), Etan Cohen (Idiocracy, Men in Black 3), and Patrick Hughes (Thelma the Unicorn, Unstuffed), The Bad Guys 3D is a must-see animated film. Produced by Rebecca Huntley (Abominable, Kung Fu Panda 4) and Damon Ross (Nacho Libre), The Bad Guys 3D is well worthwhile and a fun film offering lots of wonderful charm.

Wolf (Sam Rockwell), Snake (Marc Maron), Tarantula (Awkwafina), Shark (Craig Robinson), and Piranha (Anthony Ramos) are the bad guys. The Bad Guys are a team of criminals known as one of the most notorious gangs. A gangster squad of sorts, the team assemble for a heist and attempt to steal the wealthy riches.

The notorious gang also tries to pretend to be fully rehabilitated and then the characters soon learn that they might actually prefer actual reform. The gang also come into contact with philanthropist Professor Marmalade (Richard Ayoade). The mission is at hand. Can The Bad Guys win the day?

The characters are a huge part of the fun and charm of the feature-film. The lead cast of characters are terrific and each lead character provides something fun for the story. The characters each have unique personalities and animal identities. These elements offer up more fun for audiences. The results work well and the cast certainly feels like a compelling ensemble.

One element that works quite well is the excellent voice work. The voice cast does terrific work with each of the respective lead and supporting characters. There is plenty to appreciate about the voice acting and what it brings to the table.

The costume designs by Courtney Hoffman (Baby Driver, Captain Fantastic) are fantastic and add so much to the production. Hoffman provides excellent costuming for the animated feature. Each of these animated characters has a compelling costume design and something well illustrated for the production to be its absolute best.

Edited by John Venzon (The Lego Batman Movie, The Lego Ninjago Movie), The Bad Guys 3D is good fun and well-paced. The editing feels cohesive and engaging. The editorial style manages to imbue a sense of energy and excitement. The results certainly work well and impress in spades.

The production designs by Luc Desmarchelier (The Bad Guys 2) are effective and add a lot to the table. The designs by Desmarchelier are enormously compelling. The efforts are top-notch and certainly do add something fun to the production. Fans of blockbuster CG animated efforts with expansive, fun design elements are going to appreciate what is offered up by the designer.

The production also features superb art direction by Floriane Marchix (The Bad Guys 2). The art direction is compelling throughout the film. The designs add a lot to the feature and make things all the more fun and engaging on the whole.

Featuring a score composed by Daniel Pemberton (The Trial of the Chicago 7, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), The Bad Guys 3D is well-done from a score standpoint. The music plays a significant, meaningful, and fun role in the filmmaking. Pemberton is a top talent as a composer. The score is compelling throughout and adds a sense of whimsy to the action-comedy sequences.

Written by Etan Cohen (Holmes & Watson, Idiocracy), The Bad Guys 3D is a fun script with a lot of good moments throughout the saga. Cohen is a talented screenwriter and the fun dialogue adds a lot to the filmmaking. The Bad Guys 3D has one of the better scripts for a non-Pixar CG animated film and this is certainly one that takes inspiration from classic heist movies and the like.

Directed by Pierre Perifel (Bilby, Le building), The Bad Guys 3D is well-done entertainment with a lot for audiences to appreciate. The filmmaking offers up whimsy, action, and excitement in spades. Fans of entertaining action-comedy spectacles will find this CG animated film to feel right up their alley. The production values are excellent throughout and the overall emphasis is top-notch. The Bad Guys 3D is a must see.

Outstanding 3D effects and the robust visuals are compelling from beginning to end.

The Bad Guys 3D Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  5.0 of 5

The release provides a Dolby Atmos surround sound presentation. The Atmos audio is compelling and engaging. The surround sounds are actively utilized and there is plenty to appreciate about the audio quality. The engaging Atmos sound mixing creates superb directionality with both the front and rear Atmos speakers. The Atmos mix is top-notch and provides wonderful clarity to the surround sound presentation.

One of the best qualities of physical media and the Blu-ray format is the lossless audio encoding. The lossless audio makes a big difference at times. In the case of this presentation, the lossless audio is robust with a 24-bit high-resolution encode and lower noise floor. The effect is a more immersive soundstage. The lossless encoding provides true theater quality sound. The lossless presentation a significant advantage over streaming services. Streaming video services only offer lossy (non-lossless) audio quality.
