Terminator: 6-Film Collection Blu-ray Movie Review

Liquid metal? Nope, just recycled plastic.

Reviewed by Randy Miller III January 10, 2021

Franchise-spanning sets are rare when multiple studios are involved, with the best-case scenario usually looking like Shout Factory's recent Friday the 13th Collection . But more often than not, they're just a repackaging of old discs with maybe a couple new extras. Although the Terminator franchise, whose last legitimately great entry is now thirty years old, has been collected at least once before by Warner Bros. (2012's The Terminator Anthology, before the two newest films were released), this aptly-named 6-Film Collection gives casual fans the chance to get 'em all for cheap.

This space-saving set simply packs together all six films on Blu-ray, all of which were first released by MGM, Lionsgate, Warner Bros., and Paramount as far back as 2008. No 4K option or brand-new transfers, no exclusive bonus features, not even any packaging frills... just six recycled discs, whose separate reviews are linked below.

Included titles, with additional notes where necessary:

The Terminator (2013 remaster, originally released by MGM)

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Blu-ray version of 4K master released by Lionsgate in 2017) - Now dated "2020" with plain blue disc art, despite no changes to content

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (Originally released by Warner Bros. in 2008)

Terminator Salvation (Originally released by Warner Bros. in 2009) - Theatrical cut only

Terminator Genisys (Originally released by Paramount in 2015)

Terminator: Dark Fate (Originally released by Paramount in 2020)

Terminator: 6-Film Collection Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  4.0 of 5

Please see the following linked reviews for our thoughts on these 1080p transfers:

The Terminator

Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

Terminator Salvation (Theatrical cut only)

Terminator Genisys

Terminator: Dark Fate

Terminator: 6-Film Collection Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  4.5 of 5

Please see the following linked reviews for our thoughts on the included audio mixes for each film:

The Terminator

Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

Terminator Salvation (Theatrical cut only)

Terminator Genisys

Terminator: Dark Fate

Terminator: 6-Film Collection Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  3.5 of 5

This six-disc release is housed in a standard single-width keepcase with two double-sided hinges and no inserts. The artwork is particularly bad here -- it's not especially attractive, and the silhouetted Terminator even appears to have his head on backwards. A matching slipcover is also included.

On-disc extras are identical to the previous releases linked below, with additional notes if necessary:

The Terminator

Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

Terminator Salvation - Director's cut not included

Terminator Genisys

Terminator: Dark Fate

Terminator: 6-Film Collection Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.0 of 5

The most positive thing I can say about this "new" Terminator: 6-Film Collection is that it's a space-saving, inexpensive way to get the entire franchise in one fell swoop. It's odd that Terminator Salvation's Director's cut isn't included, but the real bummer here is that none of the existing problems have been addressed: no new transfers, no restored mono track for the original film, and no new extras... not to mention half of these are already on 4K (if you count T2, which is a sore subject). If you can live with those problems, go for it. Otherwise, there's nothing to see here.
