Terminator 2: Judgment Day 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman December 1, 2021

There has long been a kind of humorous debate about whether or not Die Hard is a "Christmas movie" (and see the cover of the version linked to, for arguable "coal" added to that particular fire), and some may wonder if Lionsgate is aiming for the same kind of infamy by releasing Terminator 2 in a Best Buy exclusive steelbook edition during the holiday season. The 4K version of Terminator 2 didn't exactly set fans' hearts beating faster, and I in fact gave it a barely passing grade, but for those who may prefer packaging over what's is actually in the packaging, this release does offer a really nicely designed case.

The contents of this release are the same as Lionsgate's previous 4K UHD release of the film. For those wanting my thoughts on that release, please head over to my original Terminator 2: Judgment Day 4K Blu-ray review of that version.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day 4K Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  3.0 of 5

Video quality is assessed in the above linked review.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day 4K Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  4.5 of 5

Terminator 2: Judgment Day 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  n/a of 5

As with the first release, the 4K UHD disc has no supplemental content. The 1080 Blu-ray disc also included has the supplements listed in my Terminator 2: Judgment Day 4K Blu-ray review. Of course the packaging will be considered the "main" extra feature of this release, and as can be seen in the photos I've uploaded to accompany this review, this is a rather nicely designed outing, with the clear plastic slipcover offering a close-up, if slightly "peeling", version of Arnie's face, which then becomes the robotic "skeleton" on the actual front cover of the steelbook. The back cover offers a "full frontal" version of the robotic insides of our favorite time traveling avenger. The cover emphasizes reds and blues very effectively. The inside panel is frankly a little boring, as can be seen in photos 3 and 6. A digital copy is also included.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.0 of 5

Kids (and cats) are often known for wanting to play more with the boxes stuff comes in rather than what's in the box, and in that same general category, steelbook collectors may be willing to overlook some of the technical deficiencies of this release just to have some admittedly luxe packaging.
