Taboo II Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Brian Orndorf December 23, 2016

After testing the waters with “Taboo,” which followed the adventures of Barbara Scott (Kay Parker) as she debated whether or not to sleep with her son (spoiler alert: she did), director Kirdy Stevens and screenwriter Helene Terrie return to intensify the situation with “Taboo II,” which keeps up the incest quest by visiting a family on the verge of sexual explosion. As sequels go, the production does a fine job of escalation, working to top previous perverse achievements by doubling down on the titular temptation, making for a far stranger but amazingly coherent follow-up.

Siblings Junior (Kevin James) and Sherry (Dorothy LeMay) are young and in full exploratory mode, with lustful interests beginning to cloud their sense of good judgment. Parents Joyce (Honey Wilder) and Greg (Eric Edwards) are locked in their own bedroom frustrations, creating impossible tension in the household that can only be solved through copulation. It’s not exactly a classy affair, but the characters in “Taboo II” are a vivid group, joined briefly by Barbara and mischievous pal Gina (Juliet Anderson), who brighten the production with their own carnal antics, dialing up the actual sexual content of the sequel, which looks to surpass “Taboo” in incestual behavior and random hook-ups, with Kirdy creating a propulsive energy to the effort, even with its fetish plotting.

Taboo II Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  4.0 of 5

Wear and tear is prevalent throughout "Taboo II" (1.85:1 aspect ratio), with the source material struggling with stability issues. There are skipped frames, thick green scratches, rough reel changes, and various points of damage, and it could disrupt the viewing experience for some. However, while shortcomings are unavoidable, the feature looks terrific when working through cleaner sections, showcasing outstanding clarity, delivering all the detail a person could want from entertainment like this, with special attention to costuming and set decoration. Ample nudity also has its graphic highlights. Colors are nicely refreshed, with bold primaries and period hues, and skintones are natural. Delineation is communicative. Grain is filmic and quite appealing.

Taboo II Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  3.0 of 5

The 1.0 DTS-HD MA sound mix is also hit with damage issues, finding a few audio dropouts along the way. There's also a battle with clarity, with some sequences struggling with muffled dialogue exchanges, making intelligibility difficult at times, losing a line here and here. Soundtrack selections also tease distortive extremes, but they mostly sound supportive, adding a rock throb to the listening event. Scratchiness is encountered, with some hiss.

Taboo II Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  1.0 of 5

  • A Theatrical Trailer (5:10, HD) is included.

Taboo II Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.5 of 5

"Taboo II" generally improves on "Taboo," showing newfound confidence with its premise, working with the knowledge that, in fact, audiences are interested in a domestic sexual rodeo. The production makes an effort to take the gamesmanship with a degree of seriousness, but Stevens still comes through with a sensual, sick-o endeavor, continuing the journey of this tastefully bonkers adult film franchise.
