Trapped in a massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), danger awaits the hero of the tale at every turn of the fast-paced story. Action, adventure, and suspense follows within a virtual reality.

Sword Art Online Box Set Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality
Arriving on Blu-ray from Aniplex of America, Sword Art Online is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high definition in the original television broadcast aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. A remarkable presentation with bright, bold, and engaging colors, Sword Art Online looks great in high definition. The Aniplex of America release spreads the episodes across several discs so the bit-rate is higher and there are fewer issues with compression.

The release includes a selection of audio options. The Japanese audio track is presented in lossless, high resolution uncompressed PCM 2.0 stereo. The English dub option is provided on the set in a compressed, lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 container at 640kbps. The lossless Japanese audio sounds impressive on the release. The lossy English dub sounds less robust by comparison and lacks the same level of clarity and subtle finesse.

Sword Art Online Box Set Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation
Sword Art Online is an entertaining and engaging anime. The series takes place in a massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). The release has an excellent video-audio presentation and a plethora of supplemental features to keep fans engaged. The set also comes with attractive packaging with a collectors art box. The only downside to the release is the lack of lossless audio on the English dub option. If one prefers the original language track, it is a non-issue. Recommended.
