Note: This SteelBook is available as part of Superman I-IV 5-Film Collection 4K.
Superman really is the Man of Steel, or at least of
SteelBooks with regard to
this collection, which Warner Brothers Home Entertainment has released in this specialized packaging along with its standard packaging release that I reviewed a few weeks ago. This
particular
release does include some non disc swag that the standard package didn't, which may make it attractive even to collectors who aren't especially "into"
SteelBooks.

On disc supplements are detailed in the Superman: The Movie 4K Blu-ray review. Additionally, this SteelBook offers a rather cool and kind of relatively "abstract" illustration on its front cover, at least when compared to some of the more literal and quasi-key art like illustrations on some of the other SteelBooks in this set. Some may find this particular illustration too minimalist when compared to other covers in this set. All of the SteelBooks offer the Superman insignia with the appropriate numeral associated with any given film on the back cover, and with the exception of Superman II, the inside features only a character photo on the left.
Superman: The Movie continues to affect and maybe even impress (at least on some level) decades after its release. Yes, a lot of the "special effects" can seem positively quaint by today's standards, and the film's kind of goofily artificial production design is even more apparent in a 4K UHD presentation, but the story has undeniable heart, and there's some undeniable chemistry between the performers, on both the hero and villain side of things. Some are already upset about the audio choices Warner has made with this re-release, and so some may want to keep their older discs, and there will no doubt be those who may wish for a more consistent upgrade in the visuals. This SteelBook offers a subtle design that is decidedly more graphic than some of the other SteelBooks in this set. Taken as a whole, Superman: The Movie comes Recommended.
