Suicide Squad Blu-ray Movie Review

Warner Brothers and Best Buy have collaborated on this exclusive SteelBook for the popular anti-super hero film 'Suicide Squad.' This two-disc set is identical to the wide release Blu-ray and includes the film's extended cut. This set does not include the film on UHD, but that version is also available in SteelBook packaging (which is much more difficult to find than this version, at least at a reasonable price). Suicide Squad Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras 

The colorful front cover, splattered with greens and purples and blues, features Deadshot and Harley Quinn posed in the center, both in almost comical attack poses, the former aiming a gun, the latter ready to ponce with a baseball bat. Joker's face hovers above Harley. The film's title appears top-left in playful lettering while the DC logo and key cast are listed across the top, the latter in childlike type. The rear panel includes a collage of characters Amanda Waller describes in the film as "the worst of the worst:" Captain Boomerang, El Diablo, Killer Croc, Enchantress, Colonel Flag, Katana, Slipknot, and Waller herself. Diablo stands atop the character pile, fire shooting from the reluctant and emotionally wounded flamethrower's hands. The rear offers more bountiful, yet slightly more reserved, color gradations, and a large "X" marks the spot near the top right-hand side. The spine sees the front side colors bleed over. The title, in the same type as the front, appears center, while a Blu-ray disc logo appears at the top and DC and Warner Brothers logos appear below.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand side tabs. The two Blu-ray discs (theatrical cut plus bonuses and extended cut) are housed on the right, staggered-stacked. The inner print covers both panels and features another character collage, this time represented in more lifelike photos rather than the front and rear's more stylized animated renderings. Included inside are Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Colonel Flag, Katana, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang. A cast and crew text cluster unobtrusively appears bottom-left.

Suicide Squad Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

I enjoyed Suicide Squad far more than Michael, though I have retained his score above; he thoroughly outlines a good many of the film's flaws and builds a compelling argument against the movie. For fans or those whose interest the movie piques, this SteelBook is the perfect point of entry to the film and means of ownership for fans of the film and collectible packaging. It's playful, colorful, and home to a pair of high quality discs. It doesn't include the 4K disc, but the Blu-ray is quite proficient in terms of both video and audio. Highly recommended.
