Steven Spielberg: The Spotlight Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Justin Dekker June 8, 2026

To celebrate the esteemed director's upcoming summer film 'Disclosure Day', Universal is releasing the Amazon-exclusive 'Steven Spielberg: The Spotlight Collection 4K'. Showcasing eight of his best and most-loved films, the limited edition 20-disc collection sees the films receiving attractive new SteelBooks featuring artwork that harkens back to their original movie posters, housed in a foam-lined and embossed metal library case. The films found in this set include: 'Jaws', 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind', 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial', 'Jurassic Park', 'Schindler's List', 'Saving Private Ryan', and 'War of the Words'. The discs themselves have received a consistent color scheme and design to further create a unified look to the set. The content of the discs inside the new SteelBooks are identical to those from the films' previous 4K releases, and all meaningful legacy supplemental features have been brought forward to this release and totals an excess of 25 hours of additional viewing. Happily, this set includes a Blu-ray disc containing the feature length documentary 'Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story' in the 'Jaws' SteelBook. Blu-ray discs of the films and Digital Codes for all them have been included as well. The codes for three of the films ('Raiders', 'Saving Private Ryan', and 'War of the Worlds') are redeemable via Paramount Movies, with the remainder being redeemable via Movies Anywhere. For a discussion of the new SteelBooks and the metal slip box, please scroll down to the "Special Features and Extras" section. This release is limited to 5700 units.

Steven Spielberg: The Spotlight Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  5.0 of 5

The new Steven Spielberg: The Spotlight Collection 4K is both massive and impressive. The set's title is embossed on three sides of the library case; the top, the left, and the right. In each instance, the raised letters are a darker gold on the ends of the lines and brighten toward the middle creating a dynamic and dramatic effect. While the top only sports the letters, the left and right sides also feature images from four of the films and are stylized to looks like film cells. Close Encounters, Schindler's List, Raiders, and Jurassic Park are on the right, while Jaws, E.T., War of the Worlds, and Private Ryan are on the left. These images are spot-glossed and stand out nicely from the case's mostly matte black surface. The back finds a contemplative contemporary image of Steven Spielberg on the left, along with a quote from the director and a reproduction of his autograph on the right. The letters are once again printed in gold. The box bottom is simply a black field along with various company logos and copyright information printed in a small font. The front of the case features slots created by rubberized foam dividers which hold the eight individual SteelBooks snugly in place, while at the same time protecting them from potential damage. If one was to have a complaint about this design, it's simply that the two SteelBooks on the ends can be somewhat difficult to remove if one does not first remove the case directly next to them (for example, removing Close Encounters to make it easier to extract Jaws). But this is a minor quibble at best.

The spines of the SteelBooks carry over the theme of the case well, with them being black and finding the film's titles being printed in their traditional fonts but rendered in the case's unique gold color. The logos for Universal, Paramount, or Columbia appear at the bottoms of the spines as appropriate. The cover of each SteelBook features art that is representative of the film's posters at the time of their initial theatrical exhibition. For each, the colorful image is printed in a debossed rectangle in the cover's center, and the image is surrounded by a thin gold boarder. The poster image is also spot-glossed. The reverse features a trio of images in the film printed in filmstrip fashion, and once again the images are spot-glossed. Above them is a memorable quote from the film, and below them are logos, copyright information, and a product number. All text is in gold.

Opening the SteelBooks once again provides a consistent experience. The discs have a black surface with the film's title printed in its usual and customary font in the set's gold color. A Blu-ray disc with bonus content is found on the left page when appropriate, while on the right, the 4K UHD disc and the Blu-ray disc containing the film are stagger-stacked, each on its own hub, with the 4K UHD disc on top. Removing all of the contents reveals a two panel image unique to each film of Spielberg on set; sometimes alone, other times with cast members or other elements from the film (I captured an image of each interior for those who wish to peruse them). The Digital Codes are found on one double-sided sheet inside the Jaws SteelBook, while the numbered certificate of authenticity is found inside that of War of the Worlds. It's a well-planned and elegant set.

Steven Spielberg: The Spotlight Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  5.0 of 5

There are few other modern directors with a body of work on par to that of Steven Spielberg. While some may wish for the inclusion of one of his other films over one that is found in these new SteelBooks, most will likely agree that the eight found here are among his most well-known, best-loved, and most influential. Each film included here has the benefit of the best video and audio presentation available to date, along with a mountain of on-disc supplemental material. Those who have already acquired all of these films in 4K may find it difficult to justify a double-dip here regardless of how sharp the packaging is. But for those who have yet to upgrade most or all of these titles, or for the directors most ardent fans, the Amazon-exclusive Steven Spielberg: The Spotlight Collection 4K receives my highest recommendation.
