Starship Troopers 4K Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman September 23, 2019Sony and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for Director Paul Verhoeven's bloody satirical masterpiece 'Starship Troopers.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Starship Troopers 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

They've certainly captured the vital components of the movie's political satire for its SteelBook release. The front and rear covers scream "propaganda
posters." The front is a little busy but works very well. The most prominent component is a closed, almost stony and sharp and angular fist pointing
downward, filling the bottom-middle portion of the SteelBook's flat, textured front panel. A couple of thick black vertical lines rise from it and extend
to the top. They are flanked by two thinner black lines, together reading in red color "The only good bug is a dead bug!" Above the fist is a Federation
logo. The upper two-thirds of the background is a creamy white color. Below are some bugs crawling out of a blood-red hole. The rear panel features
the same creamy background color. The prominent feature here is a trooper's face, with helmet, looking blankly towards the viewer. A few vertical bars,
again two thick ones flanked by two thinner ones, extend to the bottom with a star field within. "Enlist Now" is written in stylized red type. An artist
signature appears within the right hand side of the larger of the two vertical columns. The spine features the same creamy white with the film's title in
the
same color and type as the front running down. A Sony Pictures logo appears at the bottom.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in
staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features...nothing. As with so many Sony titles it's a blank slate with a single
color scheme, here a steely light gray/blue.

Starship Troopers 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

This is a fantastic SteelBook. It nails the balance between texture, content, busyness, simplicity, and tonally capturing what the movie is all about. The inner panel is disappointingly minimalist to the point of being nothing, but that's Sony's modus operandi for releases like this. This SteelBook, and the 4K content within, earn my highest recommendation.
