Star Trek: Discovery - The Complete Series Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman February 14, 2025Paramount has released a value package complete series set of the hit Paramount+ program 'Star Trek: Discovery.' The set includes all five seasons of the show, which have been made available individually on Blu-ray over the course of the past six years (wow....has it really been that long?). This set bundles the 20 discs from the five individual season releases into a single boxed set which is packaged in typical of Paramount full TV series collections (see also, for example, 'Star Trek: Enterprise' and 'I Love Lucy'). However, this is more than just a straight repackage. It also includes a brand-new bonus Blu-ray disc with additional bonus features not previously released to Blu-ray. See below for links to the previous seasons and their respective reviews, a few words on the packaging, screenshots from the new supplements, and a brief write-up of the new bonus content.

Star Trek: Discovery - The Complete Series Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

Paramount ships this complete series collection of Star Trek: Discovery in the studio's typical large clamshell casing that stacks discs one
atop another, making it something of a chore to sift through (seasons one through three do feature unique season artwork on the discs, but seasons
four and five share a common, generic blue coloring). The packaging, as always, yielded for me a handful of loose discs. They fit tightly but they are
either not placed securely in the factory or they just jar loose easily in transit. They should be fine on the shelf, however, once the end user has
made everything right (of course, as always, your mileage may vary). There is an inner print that breaks down the content (episode and bonus
content) on each disc through the five seasons. Paramount has included a non-embossed slipcover featuring a portrait of Michael Burnham on the
front against a light metallic blue background and a picture of a vertical Discovery behind her. The show's title appears in white, bottom
center, along with the text "the complete series." Packaging enthusiasts may be turned off by a large red and white sticker affixed to the left hand
side
advertising the bonus content in the package. The rear panel shows a number of Discovery crew pics and episode stills along with bonus
feature highlights, a
plot blurb, tech specs, and the rest of the usual minuscule back matter material common to a Blu-ray disc release.
New! Blu-ray bonus disc:
- Series Roundtable (1800p, 57:15): Primary participants include Co-Creator Alex Kurtzman, Actress Sonequa Martin-Green, Actor Doug Jones, Actor Wilson Cruz, Actor David Ajala, and Actor Blu del Barrio participating in a virtual get-together. Discussions include character details and relationships, performances, the series' premiere, joys and challenges of the making of the show, the series' forward pushes (such as making Burnham the Discovery's captain and moving the setting to the future), sets and visual effects work, writing and shooting and acting in key scenes, anecdotes, personal memories, camaraderie, and so much more. Fans are going to delight in this nearly hour-long retrospective with key cast and crew.
- The Art of Discovery: Production Design (1080p, 41:51): Countless images that set the design tone for Discovery. These are auto advancing images that go by at about their rate of one every five seconds. Set to music.
- The Art of Discovery: Costumes (1080p, 16:03): This is a collection of costume design images that are followed by video clips showing their real implementation in the show. Set to score from the series.

Star Trek: Discovery - The Complete Series Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

On the surface, this is nothing special, but the inclusion of the bonus disc does make this a rather enticing buy for hardcore Trekkies and the best choice for anyone wanting to get into Disco for the first time. It's also significantly cheaper than buying the seasons individually. At time of writing the savings is over $70. That's substantial. But, it's not as collectible as the individual seasons, and it's definitely not a collectible as the SteelBook packaging variants (see seasons one, two, three, four, and five). This is an easy recommend for those who do not yet own all the seasons on Blu-ray, but even with the bonus disc it's a tough sell for fans who already own the series in full.
