Spy x Family: Season Two Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Neil Lumbard May 22, 2025

Spy x Family: Season 2 continues the top-secret spy mission. The spy action-adventure returns with more episodes for the second season outing. Created by Tatsuya Endō, Spy x Family: Season 2 provides more entertaining spy antics for series fans. The second season includes episodes 26 to 37. Spy x Family: Season 2 expands on the first season adventure.

Executive produced by Akifumi Fujio (Jujutsu KaisenAyakashi Triangle), Takayuki Ōshima (My Hero AcademiaGodzilla Singular Point), Spy x Family: Season 2 continues to showcase the fantastic anime production from CloverWorks and Wit Studio. Spy x Family: Season 2 also features animation production by Tetsuya Nakatake (Sengoku Basara - Samurai Kings, Attack on Titan: The Roar of Awakening) and Yūichi Fukushima (DARLING in the FRANXX, The Promised Neverland). The Spy x Family: Season 2 production features high-quality animation.

Spy x Family: Season 2 features series production by Maasa Murakami (Hetalia World Stars, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc), Masaya Saitō (Teasing Master Takagi-san, FLCL Alternative), Mirai Yamauchi (Restaurant to Another World, Fruits Basket), and Takako Yamamori. Expanding on Season 1, Spy x Family: Season 2 features more of the energetic fun fans have come to expect. The second season brings back the beloved fan-favorite characters as the characters set sail on new journeys.

The second season brings back the Forger family for new adventures: Anya Forger (Atsumi Tanezaki), Yor Forger (Saori Hayami), and Loid Forger (Takuya Eguchi). The family consists of a spy wife, a spy husband, and spy daughter. The trio are also joined by a (spy?) doggie.

The family of Forgers are particularly faux. Yet the mission of the family is one that unites them as the spy trio works on developing their missions and spy quests. As the second season goes underway, the Forgers find themselves on a cruise.

The ship sets sail on the cruise line and the journey is one unlike anything the characters have gone on before. The journey is that much more complex as new assassins and enemies await. Can the Forger family – top-secret spies – survive their latest mission?

The second season of Spy x Family: Season 2 continues to showcase the wonderful cast of characters as one of the most essential elements of the series. Spy x Family: Season 2 features the same beloved characters that comprised the Forger family in season one and that is absolutely essential to the production and its continued success. The spy element is a big part of the character storytelling. Exploring these characters through their spy personalities as well as the family dynamic – that is absolutely essential to the production.

Spy x Family: Season 2 features superb character designs by Kazuaki Shimada (Mahou Shoujo Nante Mouiidesukara, The Promised Neverland). The character designs are essential to the production. A fantastic showcase of character art – the designs are beautiful. The simple but highly effective art manages to highlight the entire ensemble cast. The Forger family character designs are especially impressive and well-done.

The animation is beautiful and a huge part of the charm of Spy x Family: Season 2. The animation style is remarkably rewarding. The animation highlights superb background art and line artwork. The animation style is so gorgeous and elegant. Spy x Family: Season 2 also features chief art direction by Hisayo Usui (Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl, Akebi's Sailor Uniform), Kazuo Nagai (Saber Marionette J, Eureka Seven), and Tomomi Sugimoto (Combatants Will Be Dispatched!, Fairy Tail x Rave). Chief animation direction by Kazuaki Shimada (Encouragement of Climb, The Promised Neverland), Akira Takata (Natsume's Book of Friends, Haibane Renmei), and Kyoji Asano (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Attack on Titan).  There is so much to appreciate in the animation. The team of animators did fantastic work with the animation style and it is one of the best-looking modern anime series. The anime certainly showcases a fantastic aesthetic.

Spy x Family: Season 2 features music composed by Makoto Miyazaki (RPG Real Estate, One Punch Man) and Shuhei Mutsuki (Fairy gone, Lycoris Recoil). The score is one of the major highlights of the anime series. The score is beautiful and serene. There is a sense of passion in the scoring and it highlights outstanding dedication by the composers. The music plays a vital role in the production. There is wonder, magic, and plenty of energy in the scoring. The score fits the part for a spy anime series.

The visuals are also enhanced by the beautiful cinematography by Akane Fushihara (Kandagawa Jet Girls, One Punch Man). The cinematography helps to showcase the vibrancy of the animation. The cinematography showcases the animation in all of its subtle intricacies. The light and charming cinematographic style is a nice change of pace from more mature spy series – the style here is completely at opposite ends of the spy spectrum and the joyful aesthetic adds plenty of charm.

From writer-director Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Amatsuki, Dog Signal), Spy x Family: Season 2 continues to provide the series with epic adventures. The anime has become a huge success with good reason – charming storytelling, delightful direction, and fun characters make this an easy anime to enjoy. Particularly for anime fans who enjoy spy series, the anime has great production values and an impressive directing style. Spy x Family: Season 2 takes things in new directions and fans will be pleased to return for more spy adventures.
