Spider-Man: No Way Home 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

A must-see comic-book blockbuster with call-backs to previous Spider-Man franchises.

Reviewed by Neil Lumbard May 15, 2022

Spider-Man: No Way Home is the must-see third-feature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man film series. The epic action-packed adventure became one of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters of all time with good reason: the web-slinging adventures of Spider-Man are irresistible and the third outing contains wonderful call-backs to the previous incarnations of the Spider-Man cinematic universe. As chief creative producer of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kevin Feige ensures that the production dazzles from start to finish.

Peter Parker (Tom Holland) has been publicly outed as Spider-Man. The revelation causes a whirlwind of trouble for Peter, MJ (Zendaya), and Ned (Jacob Batalon). Seeking the help of a magic spell cast by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Peter aims to restore the balance of his life (and that of his friends) by returning things to how they were before he was revealed as the web-slinging hero.

Yet otherworldly dangers await Spider-Man when a group of villains arrive in his world: The Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Doc Ock (Alfred Molina), and Electro (Jamie Foxx). Can Spider-Man be victorious in a battle against an onslaught of diabolical foes? Spider-Man finds hope in the most unlikely of alliances. An inter-dimensional battle awaits.

The third outing in the Tom Holland led Spider-Man series is the best one in the franchise to date. Holland is as entertaining as ever in the role – showcasing his natural charisma (and recalling the exuberant charm of Michael J. Fox). Tom Holland manages to imbue the role with the humanity of Peter Parker as well as the heroism of Spider-Man in equal measure. Zendaya is perfect as MJ and she finds new ways to showcase her charming sense of humor during many action-packed scenes in the feature-film.

"My spider-senses are tingling."

There are call-backs to the previous Spider-Man productions and these moments make Spider-Man: No Way Home even more entertaining and memorable for audiences. With numerous cameos and nods to the previous interpretations of the comic-book character, Spider-Man: No Way Home is something enormously special. Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina are both brilliant with their reprisals in the Spider-Man franchise. Jamie Foxx is surprisingly impressive given how lackluster The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was compared to the other Spider-Man entries.

The cinematography by Mauro Fiore (Avatar, X-Men: Dark Phoenix) showcases the filmmaking at its absolute finest. Fiore provides Spider-Man: No Way Home with an artistic touch that isn't always seen with big budget filmmaking. The final battle in No Way Home is especially impressive: imbuing the finale with a sense of grandiose visuals.

The score composed by Michael Giacchino (Up, Lost) is exhilarating and exciting. Giacchino is the best composer in the industry and he provides the web-slinging adventures of Spider-Man with the perfect balance of excitement and whimsy needed to make Spider-Man: No Way Home an exciting entry in the franchise. Without the music of Giacchino, one can be sure the film wouldn't have had anywhere near as much magic.

Jon Watts (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home) showcases his exceptional skills as a director with his third outing in the Spider-Man saga being his best to date. Spider-Man: No Way Home is ambitious and artful at the same time. Watts finds the right tonal balance and delivers a fun experience for audiences. The last act of Spider-Man: No Way Home is especially powerful and an enormously fun thrill-ride.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is one of the most entertaining entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to date. The special effects in No Way Home are dazzling and the action-packed adventure is out-of-this-world. Tom Holland is at his absolute best as Spider-Man.
