Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman March 23, 2019
Sony and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release of the Oscar-winning animated film 'Spider-Man: Into the
Spider-Verse.' Unfortunately, the set only includes the film on Blu-ray and DVD. There is no UHD SteelBook at this time. The two disc set includes the same on-disc and
digital versions found in the wide release Blu-ray. For more on the SteelBook's look and feel, see the 'Special Features
and Extras' portion of the review below.

This is a handsome SteelBook. The predominant colors are red and black. On the front, a crude, but effectively illustrated, spray-painted red spider
appears. Miles Morales as his version of the Web Slinger appears leaping in front of it, center, wearing a dark costume with his own take on the
Spider-Man logo on his chest, but the entire costume is still recognizable as at least a variation on the well-known Superhero. There are a few small
paint splatters against what is effetely an otherwise black background. The rear side follows suit in terms of color scheme. The rear image is simply the
same
logo seen on Morales' chest on the front, enlarged here, and a few paint streaks running down giving the image an imperfect but certainly unique
visual appeal. The spine features the film's title, center, with the words "Spider-Man" curved and in a familiar type, while "Into the Spider-Verse" are
presented in block white letters. A Columbia Pictures logo appears at the bottom. The SteelBook's front and rear texture has a slightly grippy grit to it.
It will not fingerprint.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked under the left-hand side tabs. On the right, the two discs -- one Blu-ray and one DVD -- are staggered-stacked.
The inner print is a two-panel spread that does away with the spray paint/graffiti art style from the front and rear sides and instead depicts Morales'
Spider-Man on the left, off-center, with the top of the head cut off, in a comic book art style. The image continues to the right with colorful lines and
backgrounds, all giving the illusion of a comic book panel.

Aesthetically, this is a very attractive SteelBook that embraces simplicity and alternate artwork. Texturally, this is the best kind of SteelBook. It feels
good in the hands and won't show fingerprints. Its fatal flaw is that it does not include the film on UHD. Recommended, and if pockets are deep enough
just take the DVD out, give it to a friend, and replace it with a separately purchased UHD.
