Solo: A Star Wars Story 4K Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman October 5, 2018Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on an impressively designed SteelBook release for the 'Star Wars' spin-off film 'Solo.' The set includes three discs, the film on UHD and Blu-ray and a dedicated third Blu-ray disc packed with extra content, all of which is identical to what can be found in the wide release packaging version. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section below for more on this SteelBook.

Solo: A Star Wars Story 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

Some might find it a tad ironic that the film is called Solo but the iconic Millennium Falcon is featured on the front of this Best Buy
exclusive
SteelBook. The two do go hand-in-hand, with Han never relinquishing her until Return of the Jedi when she comes back full-circle, on a loan,
to Lando. The ship's more more elongated shape, as seen in much of this film, doesn't allow for it to be seen in its entirety on the SteelBook. It's too
wide at the back and too long at the front,
particularly with the escape pod docked in, so portions of the ship's front half have been chopped off. It also doesn't necessarily stand out all that much
from the lightly colored, seemingly serene background through which it soars. The rear cover features Chewie, Han, Lando, and Qi'ra
milling about outside the Falcon, her ramp down, awaiting her passengers and crew. The spine, a light black splotched with red, features the
film's title in
relatively small type in the middle with a Lucasfilm logo at the top and an UltraHD logo at the bottom.
Inside, the digital copy floats; there are no left-side tabs because the three-disc set necessitates that the third disc be situated in a hub on that side.
The right-hand side houses two more discs in the usual staggered-stacked pattern. The inner print features a two-panel spread image of the
Falcon's cockpit, as if the viewer were standing in the doorway and looking out on the seats and all of the familiar instrument clusters and
levers. The ship appears to be descending down onto a planet, still above some light cloud cover. It's curios it's not a depiction of the ship traveling
through hyperspace.

Solo: A Star Wars Story 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Solo exceeded expectations, particularly considering all the production drama that surrounded the release and the less-than-stellar (by Star Wars standards, anyway) box office returns. The SteelBook meets expectations. It's attractive in all areas and, even with a plethora of store exclusives out there, will likely be the go-to release for collectors who want something more than the vanilla version. Highly recommended.
