Slaughter in San Francisco Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Neil Lumbard April 23, 2025

Slaughter in San Francisco is an entertaining action film. Slaughter in San Francisco was also released under the alternate title (as is seen on the title card): Yellow Faced Tiger. Produced by Wei Lo, Slaughter in San Francisco is executive produced by Leonard Ho (Drunken Master II, Rumble in the Bronx). Starring Don Wong, Chuck Norris, Sylvia Chang, Wang Tsun, Chun Erh, Bob Talbert, Robert J. Hercuth, and James Econmonides.

Wong Kwun (Don Wong) is a tough Chinese-American police officer and someone with a strong sense of dedication to the police force. Determined to be the best officer on the police force, Wong utilizes his impressive martial arts skills to fight down dangerous enemies – alongside his police partner, Officer John Sumner (Robert Jones).

The dangerous streets of San Francisco are tough to keep clean but both officers want to do their best. John dies at the hands of thugs and now Wong must fight the crime lord known as “The Boss” (Chuck Norris). Can Wong stop the crime lord and find vengeance for his fallen partner?

The supporting cast of characters also includes Sylvia Zhu (Sylvia Chang) and Captain Newman (Dan Ivan). Slaughter in San Francisco features noteworthy lead performances by Don Wong and Robert Jones. Of course, it is also impressive and noteworthy to see Chuck Norris in a strong supporting role, providing an extended appearance during some of the most noteworthy sequences.

Composed by Joseph Koo (The Way of the Dragon, A Better Tomorrow), Slaughter in San Francisco features a solid score by Koo. The music is well-done and one of the best elements of the feature. Providing a nice backdrop to the action, Koo is a talented composer and there are plenty of epic sequences for the music to soar, too.

The cinematography by David Bailes is a highlight of the production. Slaughter in San Francisco is beautifully filmed and the cinematography is one of the best aspects of the entire feature. The cinematography is filmic and beautiful looking. There is a lot to appreciate about the feature cinematography.

Edited by Fred Cumings, Slaughter in San Francisco is well-paced. The editing style is effective and the flow of the film is impressive. The editorial vision is something to celebrate. The result is something special.

The stunts coordinated by Ying-Chieh Han (The One Armed Swordsmen, Attack of the Kung Fu Girls) impress. The stunt-work provides noteworthy action and helps to bring out the best in the feature. Action scenes are well choreographed throughout. The end result is a more thrilling adventure.

Written and directed by Wei Lo (The Big Boss, Fist of Fury), Slaughter in San Francisco is better than expected. The action hits home and it provides a lot of old-school genre fun. Director Lo brings out the best through the filmmaking. Slaughter in San Francisco is well-worthwhile and action fans shouldn’t miss seeing it.
