For collectors who like to keep track of "meta" data like which labels / studios release titles in various regions, it may be interesting to note that in the case of this particular film, it's not 88 Films' own UK branch which has offered a 1080 disc of She Shoots Straight, but instead Eureka! Entertainment. The two releases share at least a couple of supplements, though one apparent sharing doesn't actually appear to be (see below), and with regard to both this release and the Eureka! Entertainment release, there are supplements on one that are not on the other.

She Shoots Straight is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of 88 Films with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1.85:1. The back cover of this release states "brand new 2K restoration from the original negative", which I nonetheless suspect is the same source for the Eureka! release. While that "brand new" may not be technically correct, it may indicate that the anomalies Svet mentions in his review, some of which I'll repeat here in a moment, are not "age based" vis a vis an older master. That said, this is a curiously variable looking presentation, as Svet alludes to in his review. Grain is almost comically variable throughout, often divorced completely from lighting conditions or even master shots vs. pick ups. Some outdoor material can feature a really rather nicely tightly resolved grain field, which then just as suddenly can in fact look pretty noisy, as Svet mentions in his review. I'd echo Svet's generally positive reaction to the palette, which is quite healthy looking throughout, and offers some particulary bold reds. I'm maybe a bit more forgiving of the overall appearance of this presentation than Svet was, and my score reflects that, but I share a lot of Svet's concerns.

This edition of She Shoots Straight offers some interesting audio differences from the Eureka! Entertainment release. The original Cantonese track is presented in both LPCM 2.0 Mono and Stereo, and the English dub is presented in LPCM 2.0 Mono and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There's frankly not a lot of difference between the two Cantonese tracks in terms of either general amplitude or frankly even wide stereo imaging (i.e., the stereo imaging is not very wide). If you listen closely during the few quieter moments in the film, the mono track arguably has just a bit of high end hiss that isn't as audible on the stereo track. Maybe a little unexpectedly, I was least impressed with the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track in English, which sounds noticeably compressed and offering kind of shockingly low amplitude. There are some definite moments throughout the film, especially in some of the manic action sequences, where the surround track does provide noticeable immersion. Dialogue is rendered cleanly and clearly throughout. Optional English subtitles are available.

Having made my way through 88 Films' prior release of In the Line of Duty: I - IV, a task that increasingly became something of a slog, I was perhaps more positively inclined generally toward this standalone effort than Svet was. Technical merits are variant but not disastrous by any stretch in my estimation, and the supplements on this disc are quite enjoyable, for anyone who may be considering making a purchase.
