A young doctor kills himself after a medical committee terminates his research into human embryos, considering it too inhumane. Severin Films' release of SheKilled in Ecstasy is a 4K Blu-ray/Blu-ray combo pack. The 4K Blu-ray and the Blu-ray are both Region-Free.
Please note that some of the screencaptures included with this article are taken from the 4K Blu-ray and downscaled to 1080p. Therefore, they do not accurately reflect the quality of the 4K content on the 4K Blu-ray disc.
Screencaptures #1-27 are taken from the Blu-ray.
Screencaptures #30-38 are taken from the 4K Blu-ray.
In America, She Killed in Ecstasy made its high-definition debut with this release, also produced by Severin Films, in 2015. The combo pack presents an exclusive new 4K restoration of the German version of She Killed in Ecstasy, sourced from the original camera negative, on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray. In native 4K, the 4K restoration can be viewed with Dolby Vision and HDR grades. I chose to view it with Dolby Vision and later spent time with its 1080p presentation on the Blu-ray.
In 2015, She Killed in Ecstasy looked better than Vampyros Lesbos on Blu-ray. It was primarily because the prominent filtering adjustments present in the older presentation of the latter were dramatically minimized. However, traces of these filtering adjustments were still noticeable, and in different areas of the film, usually with unique ranges of darker nuances, most were noticeable. The new 4K restoration produces healthier and more attractive visuals, all boasting an undeniable, significantly stronger organic appearance. On my system, the upgrade in quality was so obvious that I did not feel the need to compare various areas that used to reveal issues. Delineation, clarity, and depth are far better now. Grain exposure can be somewhat uneven at times, but these fluctuations are introduced by lensing preferences. Color reproduction and balance are very good. As with the new 4K restoration of Vampyros Lesbos, color saturation is improved, and there are various small yet very good adjustments. For example, in numerous backgrounds, primary blue and blue nuances are strengthened, and the light turquoise that used to interfere with them is eliminated. This particular adjustment has quite a positive impact on the overall dynamic range of many visuals. The improvement is very easy to appreciate in native 4K and 1080p, too. Also, I thought that darker nuances are better managed than those on the new 4K restoration of Vampyros Lesbos. I would describe the Dolby Vision grade as very good. There are no stability issues. Finally, I saw a couple of tiny blemishes, but the entire film looks very healthy. My score is 4.75/5.00.

There is only one standard audio track on this release: German DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. Optional English subtitles are provided for the main feature.
Jess Franco preferred the German versions of She Killed in Ecstasy and Vampyros Lesbos. However, I suspect that both films would have been more effective had they been shot and finalized in English. The German dubbing is all over the place. Some of it is uneven, and some of it is somewhat amateurish. Franco's films easily tolerate such inconsistencies, but in She Killed in Ecstasy they make it difficult to create and maintain a great atmosphere. The lossless track sounds marginally fuller to me now, but I am unsure if any new and specific work has been done to optimize it. The English translantion is very good.

4K BLU-RAY DISC

Jess Franco completed She Killed in Ecstasy using many of the same actors that appeared in Vampyros Lesbos. However, She Killed in Ecstasy does not have the same dreamy environment that makes Vampyros Lesbos so fascinating to behold. Still, fans of Soledad Miranda probably should not miss it, especially now, after it was beautifully restored in 4K by Severin Films. I think that the new 4K restoration looks gorgeous on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
