An anime comedy worth checking out.

Seitokai Yakuindomo is an anime comedy from production studio GoHands (K: Return of Kings, Tokyo Babylon 2021). The series was created by Tozen Ujile. Fans of zany comedy series will discover the series and find it has plenty to offer.

The all-girl academy of Ousai Private School decides it is now time to become a co-ed university at long last. Takatoshi Tsuda (Shintaro Asanuma) wins the lottery as one of the few men able to enroll in the school after becoming co-ed. As one of only 28 male students, Takatoshi finds himself surrounded by 500 beautiful babes.

Yet Student Council President Shino Amakusa (Yoko Hikasa) decides to enlist him to join the group and hijinks begin. As Takatoshi gets to know Shino alongside council secretary Aria Shichijou (Satomi Satou) events at the school become more fun than bargained for originally. Is Takatoshi going to find a beautiful babe of his own or will he become trounced by swarms of gorgeous girls?

The characters on the series make the production more entertaining. The central character of the series, Takatoshi Tsuda, is a funny lead. The male-fantasy dream of being surrounded by beautiful women at every turn (vying for his attention) is a classic anime trope (which was perfected with Tenchi Muyo). The supporting cast of characters are entertaining as well: helping to make the series more fun. An excellent effort.

The series relies more on comedic elements than on action-beats alone. The result is a series with a funny bone that wants audiences to enjoy in the comedic hijinks. Fans of the genre will appreciate the goofiness within Seitokai Yakuindomo. Seitokai Yakuindomo offers audiences plenty of enticing elements to explore in the comedy realm.

"Party time!"

The animation on Seitokai Yakuindomo is excellent as well. Seitokai Yakuindomo is a beautifully animated program and one that looks crisp, colorful, and engaging. The series is a vibrant and mesmerizing visual experience. Under the art direction of Masanobu Nomura (Blue Drop, Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations), Seitokai Yakuindomo is a rousing success in the animation department. The team of animators involved helped make the series effective with nice background artwork, line art, and designs (showcasing the Ousai Private School and surrounding environments well).

The art also excels with additional art design efforts by Kaoru Aoki (Black Clover, Asura Cryin') and Tomoyasu Fujise (Samurai Warriors, Tears to Tiara). These efforts help to enhance the storytelling for the series. The character designs by Makoto Furuta (Tokyo Babylon 2021, K: Seven Stories – The Idol K) are excellent.

The music score composed by Yuya Mori (Black Clover, Super Dragon Ball Heroes) is engaging as well. Though not a top-tier score, the music does add a sense of melody and fun to the production. There is enough creativity on display with the music by Mori. A nice effort for the series.

The series is written by Makoto Nakamura (Rocket Girls, Before Green Gables). Seitokai Yakuindomo is entertaining and has fun with its concept. The production has a lot of entertaining elements which enhance the experience. While not as great as some series with similar concepts – Tenchi Universe comes to mind – this is still a fun show with decent writing.

Directed by Hiromitsu Kanazawa (Hand Shakers, K), Seitokai Yakuindomo is worth checking out for viewers interested in a well done comedy. Kanazawa has a nice sense of style and brought forth a superb effort from the animators involved with the production. Kudos to Kanazawa for his effort.

Arriving on Blu-ray from Sentai Filmworks, Seitokai Yakuindomo is presented in the original television broadcast aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. The presentation is impressive and manages to showcase the vibrant imagery of the animation nicely. The series has a great cinematographic effect and looks remarkably clear and dynamic. The image "pops" with great detail and clarity. The results are great. Encoded well by Sentai, Seitokai Yakuindomo is a nice looking anime series and fans of anime will appreciate the picture-quality.

The release is presented in Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 stereo (with English subtitles). The presentation is crisp for the audio track. Dialogue is crisp and engaging sounding. The music is also well integrated in to the sound mix. The stereo imaging is decent and while not as immersive as some 5.1 surround presentations, the mix is still satisfying. The release only includes the original Japanese language audio. No English dub is provided on the release.

Presented in Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound (with English subtitles). The addition of the feature-length film in the same set is noteworthy and appreciable for fans of the series. A nice bonus by Sentai.

Seitokai Yakuindomo is an entertaining comedy anime with some silly antics for fans of the genre. The series has nice animation – crisp, colorful, and fun. The series is worth checking out. The Blu-ray has engaging video-audio and a small but appreciable selection of bonus features (including the feature length film Seitokai Yakuindomo: The Movie). Fans of the series will want to pick up the set. Recommended.
