The killer doll is back! Glen is the orphan doll offspring of the irrepressible devilish-doll-come-to-life Chucky and his equally twisted bride Tiffany. When production starts on a movie detailing the urban legend of his parents' lethal exploits, Glen heads for Hollywood where he brings his bloodthirsty parents back from the dead. The family dynamics are far from perfect as Chucky and Tiffany go Hollywood and get rolling on a new spree of murderous mayhem--much to gentle Glen's horror. Chucky can't believe that his child doesn't want to walk in his murdering footsteps, and star-struck Tiffany can't believe that the movie will star her favorite actress, Jennifer Tilly, who soon becomes an unwitting hostess to this new family in more ways than one.

Scream Factory via Shout! Factory has released the 2004 franchise film 'Seed of Chucky' to the UHD format. New specifications include remastered 1080p and 2160p/Dolby Vision video. Audio options include 5.1 and 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio lossless. A selection of new and returning extras are included. Scream Factory offers two cuts of the film on the Blu-ray disc: 'Unrated' (1:27:20) and 'Theatrical' (1:26:12). The UHD disc includes only the theatrical cut. The film was originally released to Blu-ray in 2018 via Universal.
The included screenshots are sourced from the bundled and remastered 1080p Blu-ray disc.
Ken Brown commented in his review of Universal's Seed of Chucky that the transfer was not "up to snuff." Scream Factory has fixed that
problem by
providing a brand new 4K master from the original camera negative for both the 1080p Blu-ray and the 2160p/Dolby Vision UHD. The Blu-ray looks rock
solid. It presents with high yield clarity, excellent textural awareness, very capable intimate detail presentation, and superb depth in the 2-D format.
There's obvious depth to Chuck's facial scars, for example, and excellent dimensional feel in spacious locales. The picture enjoys a pleasantly filmic
veneer, boasting a tangible and evenly distributed grain structure. Colors are solid, too, with punchy fireballs, vivid reds, balanced skin tones, good
whites, and solid blacks.
The UHD takes these characteristics and amplifies them. The feel for the overall cinematic presentation excellence is clear, with a more robust textural
foundation and a superior grain field. The picture is beautifully cinematic, especially considering just how sharp, clear, and natural it appears in every
frame. Depth is amplified over the Blu-ray and overall accuracy to fine point elements, like Chucky's overalls and the dolls' hair, are superior for total
sharpness and definition. There are no blatantly obvious signs of print wear or encode failures. The Dolby Vision colors are wonderful, too. The opening
white titles enjoy
more vivid punch and whites in general are brighter and better pronounced. Color vividness is vastly superior. Depth is improved, brightness is better,
and tonal finesse is more refined. Colors are bolder and punchier across the spectrum, from bright blue skies outside of the studios to vivid red blood in
some of the film's most violent scenes. Black depth is striking, and skin tones look spot-on accurate. It's hard to imagine this film looking any better.
Scream Factory's DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack delivers a satisfyingly clear, rich, balanced, and engaging listen. It's not quite so powerfully potent as the Bride of Chucky track, but it nevertheless hits on all points of interest. The track offers good, hefty bass that is always in order rather than overly booming and unkempt. Surround usage is extensive, but balanced. The listener always feels engaged in action and immersed in environments; there's never a sense of dropped or missing coverage in the spatial characteristics. Whether gentle ambience or more heavy and intense action elements, the sense of balance and surround detail are high, especially when paired with the spacious front-end stretch. Musical delivery is clear and healthy with prominent front width and light but critically immersive surround elements. Dialogue is clear, well prioritized, and centered for the duration. The 2.0 track is equally robust and healthy for its clarity and detail. Of course, the absence of the surround and subwoofer channels limits engagement opportunities, but the track holds to impressive width, listener engagement, and center-imaged dialogue.
The included Blu-ray disc houses all of the supplements outlined below. The UHD disc only includes the audio commentary tracks. Supplements
marked as "new" are newly produced for this release. Coverage of the carryover content can be found by clicking here. No digital copy code is included, but the studio does
ship the film with a non-embossed
slipcover.
Seed of Chucky offers a bizarre spin on the franchise, but Scream Factory has nevertheless done right by the movie on the UHD format. The new 2160p/Dolby Vision UHD presentation is wonderful, the 5.1 audio is superb, and the extras are solid, offering a blend of carryover content from the Universal disc while adding two new interviews. Fans are going to love this release.
