Scream 6 3D is a thrilling entry in the film series. The sixth installment in the horror franchise, Scream 6 was a box office success and was the highest grossing installment in North America since Scream 2. Produced by Paul Neinstein (Abigail, Fountain of Youth), William Sherak (Ready or Not, Abigail), and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, Ready or Not), Scream 6 delivers in spades. Based on characters created by Kevin Williamson (Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer), Scream 6 stars Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, and Hayden Panettiere.
Ghostface isn’t done with his story. The masked killer may even have accomplices in a new terrorizing game of catch-and-kill. The sadistic serial killer has returned with a brand-new home: New York.
The city that never sleeps is awake. Ghostface is determined to up his kill count and take out as many victims as possible before the lights go out. Returning heroes including the ace reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and seductive sisters Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) and Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera). Other team players in the fight for survival against Ghostface include Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown), Chad Meeks- Martin (Mason Gooding), and the newcomer sex-pot Quinn Bailey (Liana Liberato). Detective Bailey (Dermot Mulroney) is working hard on the case (or hardly working) and is joined by returning legend, Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere). Can the heroes stop Ghostface before the kill count exceeds their own numbers?

The cast is terrific. One of the best aspects of the film is the returning cast members from the previous installment. The actors have a lot of fun with their respective roles. First and foremost, Jenna Ortega continues to prove herself to be a natural born star. Ortega is one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood and one of the most talented stars, too. Ortega fans will be thrilled with her return as Tara Carpenter. Melissa Barrera also delivers a solid performance as Sam Carpenter – demonstrating a good dynamic and on-screen charisma with Ortega.
Both Ortega and Barrera play well off of one another as sister characters. The other supporting actors have plenty of charm, too. It is wonderful to see the fan-favorite character Kirby Reed return and Hayden Panettiere does a perfect job returning to the role. Panettiere has great screen presence and easily returns to the part of Kirby Reed. Courteney Cox remains a fan-favorite and essential part of the franchise, too. It just wouldn’t be the same without her involvement.
On a less enthusiastic note regarding the cast, the absence of original Scream horror icon and star Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott is felt. There is certainly a bit of lingering disappointment that the original horror icon wasn’t brought back for the sixth installment. Campbell is one of the best scream queens within horror filmmaking history. Sidney Prescott is one of the most beloved characters in franchise history, too. It was a bit odd to not see the return of Neve Campbell (although the script does reference Sidney Prescott) – and fans naturally anticipate her return to the horror franchise.
The production designs by Michele Laliberte (Stonewall, The Words) are exceptional. The New York setting is brought to life by Laliberte. Scream 6 is so impressive and the production merits superb throughout. The aesthetic qualities add a lot to the filmmaking and audiences will appreciate the production design efforts to create a compelling landscape for the horror film franchise to expand.
The art direction by Mathieu Giguère (X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) and Philippe Lord (Dune: Part Two, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) is top-notch throughout. The fun production aesthetic qualities add a lot to the film. These elements are on display throughout the feature.
The costume designs by Avery Plewes (Ready or Not, The Craft: Legacy) are well-done and add a lot of charm to the filmmaking. Plewes delivers solid costuming for the entire cast of characters. With good designs true to the previous installment, the characters continue to feel authentic and the efforts are impressive for the storytelling.
Featuring a score composed by Sven Faulconer (Hellboy: The Crooked Man, Assimilate) and Brian Tyler (Abigail, The Super Mario Bros. Movie), Scream 6 has excellent music that contributes to the horror filmmaking in spades. The music is a huge part of the fun and adds to the sense of action-terror established by the filmmakers. Although the score isn’t on-par with the efforts of original Scream composer Marco Beltrami, the music is still well-done and effective for the installment.
The cinematography by Brett Jutkiewicz (Scream, Ready or Not) is beautiful and complex. The visual element of the production is superb. Jutkiewicz is a gifted cinematographer and someone with an incredible eye for lensing. The creative cinematography showcases the dread, terror, and horror throughout Scream 6.
Edited by Jay Prychidny (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Wednesday), Scream 6 3D is well- paced. The rhythm and flow of the filmmaking is top-notch. Prychidny does a great job highlighting the fast-paced and exciting filmmaking style.
Written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, Scream) and Guy Busick (Abigail, Ready or Not), Scream 6 is another entertaining installment in the legendary horror franchise. The script has great dialogue throughout. The characters are given plenty of opportunity to shine throughout the feature. An engaging effort by the screenwriters. The script also provides some nice surprises. The script also shakes things up a bit – changing the location to New York and changing some of the methods of Ghostface (such as the shotgun scene). The script also works well in providing creative action scenes.
Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (Abigail, Ready or Not) and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not, Abigail), Scream 6 is almost as good as the previous installment and is highly entertaining throughout. Scream 6 adds a nice chapter to the beloved horror film series. Scream 6 is a lot of fun and it carries the signature style established by the filmmakers.
The horror filmmaking is top-notch and the finale is a great bloodbath (as the directors have managed to establish as part of their esteemed genre reputation – Ready or Not and Abigail also full of mayhem in each finale). Scream 6 might not be the best entry in the franchise (or even equal to the preceding sequel) but it is a great addition to one of the most iconic horror film series of all time.

Released on 3D Blu-ray by Turbine Media, Scream 6 3D is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 MVC encoded high-definition in the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.39:1 widescreen. The Blu-ray presentation looks enormously crisp, clear, and engaging throughout the transfer. The high-definition video is top-notch. The transfer is robust and details in the image are enormously pleasing. The 3D image is the big draw of the release. The 3D presentation is a pleasing one with a lot of good 3D layering and depth.
A 3D conversion that is mostly focused on added depth, there aren't a lot of notable pop-out effects (something that might disappoint some viewers) and it is more akin to a standard presentation with an extra layer of dimensionality. The 3D is reserved but refined and looks pleasing throughout the entire presentation. Despite not being a 3D presentation loaded with pop-out effects and the like, 3D fans nonetheless will find this to be the best way to experience the film. It looks excellent on 3D Blu-ray and even bests the 3D theatrical presentation I experienced when Scream 6 3D was first released into cinemas.

The release is presented in Dolby Atmos. The Atmos audio encoding is top-notch and one of the major highlights of the release. The surround sound track is enormously engaging and there is good added depth to the spatial audio. The rear channels are utilized throughout and there are plenty of good elements in the sound mix. The score is well reproduced and integrated into the sound mix, too. Throughout the presentation, the Atmos audio provides a more satisfying mix than expected – a testament to the sound designers.
One of the highlights of the audio presentation is the remarkable lossless encoding. Blu-ray disc provides lossless encoding and it provides a significant improvement over streaming video services. Streaming video services only provide lossy (non-lossless) audio encoding. For home theater enthusiasts and audiophiles alike, the difference makes a noteworthy improvement for the presentation quality. Collectors appreciate how the Blu-ray format provides the same lossless audio quality as cinemas provide. The high-resolution audio experience is immersive and easily bests streaming – Atmos on streaming is usually limited to CD quality resolution on newer releases (whereas the 3D Blu-ray has a Atmos mix with an enormous bit-rate by comparison).

The release has no bonus features. Turbine Media has made a decision to not include any bonus features on 3D Blu-ray releases and has instead opted to provide optimal presentation quality with higher bit-rates for both the video and audio presentation. The decision was made with the idea that any fan wanting the supplements can still pick up the separately available standard Blu-ray and/or 4K UHD/Blu-ray combo pack editions to get the supplemental package. The 24-bit depth also allows for a greater sense of clarity and with a lower noise floor, too.

Scream 6 3D is an entertaining entry in the popular horror franchise. The sixth installment offers up a lot of great sequences in New York City. The cast does a great job with the feature – most especially the gorgeous Jenna Ortega (who has an undeniable charisma). The 3D Blu-ray release provides a superb presentation and lossless audio. The 3D is engaging and offers excellent depth throughout. 3D fans won't want to miss experiencing Scream 6 in 3D. Highly recommended.
