Lionsgate and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for Director James Wan's grim and gruesome 2004 Horror film 'Saw.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Saw's SteelBook perfectly reflects the movie's grisly content. The front and rear panels fall somewhere between glossy and matte; a grittier
fully matte finish might have made more sense for a SteelBook that aims to capture the film's Horror tones, but this is still an effective surfacing and
it won't show extreme handing fingerprints, even along the darker portions. The front panel depicts and extreme facial close-up of the "Billy" puppet
that is a frequent sight in the film (and the franchise), often the "face" of the deadly traps victims face. The portrait is justified to the right (or the
puppet's left) where only
the right-hand side of the face is visible. There is no shortage of detailing; it's so clear one can almost touch it and feel the innate textures. The face
is in front of a solid black background. The rear panel depicts a scene in which Cary Elwes' Lawrence Gordon is lying on his belly on the floor in the
dank
bathroom where much of the film takes place, his arms outstretched, desperately yearning for freedom and health. The grim blue tiling is seen
behind
him, illuminated only towards the center and poorly at that. The shadowy figure of Jigsaw lurks behind in a doorway. The spine is simply a flat black
with the film's
title scrawled in red, center, accompanied by the word "Unrated," also in red. The bottom features the spiral logo from Billy's cheek, in red and
dripping blood, along with a microscopic Lionsgate logo.
As with many Lionsgate SteelBooks. this one ships with a plastic slipcover. When it's on, the front panel looks like Billy is now inside an old TV set,
recreating one of the key set pieces from the franchise. The film's title appears bottom right in red, along with "Unrated." Top left, which is a lighter
color, features the 4KUltraHD+Blu-ray+Digital announcement. The spines are identical, with the film's title and "Unrated" center as they appear on
the front. A small picture of Billy on a tricycle appears at the top while UltraHD and Lionsgate logos have been placed at the bottom. The back matter
includes a plot blurb, special features listing, a color image collage (including the same image depicting Billy on the sides), tech specs, a billing block,
and legalese.
Inside, the digital copy is tucked under the left-hand side tabs. The two discs, one Blu-ray and one UHD, appear on their own hubs on the left and
right panels. The inner print is a two panel spread that depicts a gruesome scene showing a bloody hacksaw, center, and a severed foot, top right,
with some blood on the floor. The scene is very dark.

Fans are going to love this SteelBook. Lionsgate puts out some of the best on the market and this one is a home run. It's dark, grim, everything it should be. The film is solid, too, and the UHD's new video and audio presentations are first-rate. Highly recommended.
