Four years after Warner Bros. released a complete boxed set of Genndy Tartakovsky's five-season Cartoon Network series Samurai Jack, the studio quietly reissued it in much slimmer packaging -- a win-win for shipping costs and shelf space. Now priced to move but probably not arriving before Christmas, it'll delight fans who have yet to own it on home video as a well as a whole new generation -- perhaps even a few folks working their way backwards from Primal.

For details about each season's 1080p transfer, please see the original complete series Blu-ray review. Although I'd probably rate them a half-point lower, that's due to increased expectations now so I'll keep this score the same.

Details bout this series' Dolby Digital mixes (2.0 for the first four seasons, 5.1 for the fifth) can be found at the linked review above. This would have been a great opportunity for WB to give fans lossless audio, but who am I kidding?

This five-disc set is efficiently packaged in a single keepcase with multiple hinges that takes up very little shelf space. No episode lists, other printed goodies, or interior art is included, but the much beefier 2017 boxed set didn't have that stuff either -- just individual cover art on each of the five keepcases and a sturdy two-piece outer slipbox.
As for the extras: like before, Seasons 1-3 and 5 each have a few modest bonus features included on their respective discs, and they're all detailed in Jeff's review linked above.

Genndy Tartakovsky's five-season Cartoon Network series Samurai Jack is an evocative and stylish production that burned brightly from 2001-2004, took an unprecedented thirteen-year hiatus, and surprised just about everyone with a dark and more mature fifth season in 2017. This five-disc release from Warner Bros. repackages an earlier boxed set to take up less than 20% of the shelf space with no loss to on-disc contents, but the nagging presence of lossy audio still hangs overhead. With that in mind, this one's still heartily Recommended to fans and first-timers alike.
