Sailor Moon S: Season 3, Part 1 Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras
As with the (R) seasons one and two Limited Edition sets, Season three (S)'s Limited Edition ships with the season's first half three-disc set and includes a spacer for part two, which when removed houses both seasons comfortably and snugly. Beyond the on-disc content, which has been reviewed here (part one) and here (part two), this Limited Edition ships with an attractive 88-page book comprised of several different sections, including brief summaries of seasons one and two and an in-depth summary for season three with episode summaries included for every episode in parts one and two. Each summary earns its own page and includes two still, color images from the episode. The book additionally features English and Japanese voice cast credits and lyrics for several songs, including Moonlight Legend, Otome no Policy, and Tuxedo Mirage. Additionally, the book features artwork depicting Sailor Moon; Sailor Chibi Moon; Sailor Moon, Sailor Chibi Moon and Tuxedo Mask; Super Sailor Moon (multiple poses); all 10 Sailor Guardians (multiple poses); Kaolinite; the Witches 5 (multiple poses); Professor Tomoe; Mistress 9; and Sailor Neptune, Sailor Uranus, Artemis and Luna and Sailor Chibi Moon. Also included are two-page bios, with artwork, for Usagi Tsukino, Chibi-Usa, Ami Mizuno, Rei Hino, Makoto Kino, Minako Aino, Hartman Tenoh, Michiru Kaioh, Setsuna Meioh, Hotaru Tomoe, and Mamoru Chiba. Lastly, there is a one-page advertisement for Sailor Moon S Part 2, which was released after this box.
Sailor Moon S: Season 3, Part 1 Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation
The poor video quality notwithstanding, this set should draw the eye of any collector and Sailor Moon fan. There are certainly many Anime special edition releases that ship with more "stuff," but this one's elegantly packaged with an attractive slip box and artwork and features a striking full-color booklet. It's a shame it doesn't at least ship with the additional character cards found in the Crystal box sets, but fans should nevertheless be pleased, at least with the physical presentation. If those same fans can swallow the video quality -- and that's a big if -- this set comes recommended. Otherwise, wait for a significant price drop.
