Rocketman Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman December 15, 2025

Paramount has released a Blu-ray SteelBook release for the 2019 film 'Rocketman,' starring Taron Egerton and directed by Dexter Fletcher. This is the second release of this SteelBook design; it was first issued in 2019; there is also a now out-of-print UHD SteelBook. The disc content is identical to that found in the Blu-ray wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel as well as the bonus booklet.

Rocketman Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  2.5 of 5

This SteelBook release of Rocketman features an extreme close-up of Elton John on the front, wearing bejeweled sunglasses. The film's title appears bottom center in a blue outer space-themed presentation. The rear panel features Elton John jamming on the piano in front of a packed stadium. The spine is a creamy color with the film's title, just as it appears on the front, centered. A Paramount logo has been placed at the top and a Blu-ray logo at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one Blu-ray and one DVD, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a generic image of embers that Paramount has used before in Shooter and at least one other SteelBook that escapes my mind at the moment.

Finally, this SteelBook ships with a booklet entitled "Think You Know Me? Think Again: A Special Message from Elton John for Fans of Rocketman. This is essentially a pitch for his autobiography "Me" which he bills as a much more accurate representation of his life.

Rocketman Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.5 of 5

Though it's a reissue, this is a quality SteelBook, at least on the outside. The front and rear panels looks great, but the interior is lazily generic, a recycled print from other SteelBooks for films not even in this same genre that really has nothing to do with the film. It would have been nice, too, for Paramount to re-release the UHD version too, but at $7 new at time of writing, it's hard to really complain, especially with the quality of the film and the excellence of the Blu-ray video and audio presentations. Recommended.
