Robotrix Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Neil Lumbard April 21, 2025

Robotrix is an entertaining adult feature with compelling action scenes. Produced by Anthony Chow (Wild Search, The Final Test) and Lam Chua (Mr. Nice Guy, Armour of God), Robotrix is a noteworthy Category III adult film. Starring Amy Yip, Chikako Aoyama, David Wu, Billy Chow, Anthony Chow, and Lam Chua, Robotrix is worth seeing for Hong Kong cinema fans.

Ryuichi Sakamoto (Chung Lin) decides to transfer his mind to a cyborg body. Now Ryuichi has an android form while keeping his brain. Selena Lin (Chikako Aoyama) is a strong-willed policewoman who ends up being killed by the psychotic Ryuichi.

Ryuichi has used his new body to rape and murder women – including prostitutes – left and right. Selena is brought back to life as the cyborg Eve-27. Eve-27 fights alongside another android sidekick, Ann (Amy Yip). Between Eve-27 and Ann, the two android women are determined to stop the evil Ryuichi from raping and killing more women.

Chikako Aoyama and Amy Yip are both impressive in Robotrix. As the leading actresses of the film, both deliver solid performances as the crime-fighting cyborgs. The supporting cast of characters includes Linda (Chikako Aoyama), Joe Chow (David Wu), and Sakamoto's Robot (Billy Chow). Chung Lin is effective as the psychopathic android.

The Robotrix production features solid art direction by Bill Lui (Black Mask, Crime Story). Lui is a talented art director. The art direction is solid throughout the feature. From a production standpoint, the sets are especially compelling.

The stunts coordinated by Douglas Kung (Dragon Hero, Last Hero in China) are impressive and the action scenes are well staged. Kung is a talented stunt coordinator and the results are worthwhile. The fight scenes are more immersive because of the stunt choreography and the role it played in creating entertaining sequences.

The music composed by James Wong (A Chinese Ghost Story, Once Upon a Time in China) and Siu Hung Yeung is engaging and adds to the action in spades. The score is a solid backdrop to the production. An effective score and one that adds to the filmmaking.

The cinematography by Jim Yeung (Doctor Vampire, Ghost in the House) is one of the most impressive aspects of the feature-film. Yeung is a talented cinematographer. The visuals add a lot to the film. Yeung’s cinematography is wonderful at showcasing the genre elements.

Edited by Peter Cheung (The Way of the Dragon, Fist of Fury) and Wang-Hung Ng (When a Man Loves a Woman, Thunderbolt), Robotrix is a well-edited production. The filmmaking flows well – the editing is essential to the storytelling. The end result is a well-paced action feature.

Written by Jamie Luk (The Spirit of Love, Ghost in the House) and Man Sing So (Bio-Zombie, First Shot), Robotrix is a decent script. The screenplay isn’t perfect – the storytelling is inconsistent and dialogue sometimes feels lackluster, too. Even so, the concept is decent and the film is entertaining overall.

Directed by Jamie Luk (Doctor Vampire, Love with the Perfect Stranger), Robotrix isn’t a top- tier Category III adult film – though it does have its moments, too. In fact, much of the sex scenes are somewhat tame compared to other Category III adult cinema. The action scenes are interesting and make up a bigger percentage of the feature. Robotrix isn’t a home run but it does offer entertainment for genre enthusiasts and especially for those with an appreciation for science-fiction storytelling.
