Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman February 11, 2022

Sony has widely released a UHD SteelBook packaging variant for the 2021 video game adaptation film 'Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

This matte SteelBook is handsomely subtle and subdued. The front panel depicts the Raccoon police headquarters building, lightly illuminated at the bottom to stand out from the rainy nighttime darkness around the rest of the panel. A red and white umbrella, with some blood splatter, is sitting in the foreground. The film's title appears in white and red lettering at the top. The rear panel features a green and white "welcome" sign that advertises both the city and the company that made it tick. It's illuminated by two lights above to stand out against a rainy nighttime backdrop. The spine carries over the front image with traces of the RPD building along the top half. The film's title appears center and a Sony logo has been placed at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code and a sealed pack of five collector's cards are tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features blood splatters over a silver background.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.5 of 5

This is a very nice SteelBook. The matte texture, the dark and subdued art, and the minimalist inner panel make it a joy. The UHD is great too. The movie is OK but could have been quite a bit better. Recommended.
