Requiem for a Dream 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman September 25, 2025

Lionsgate Limited's releases for September include both never before released films as well as some re-releases. In the case of Requiem for a Dream 4K, this Lionsgate Limited edition offers the same discs (4K and 1080) released with Requiem for a Dream 4K's standard packaging release from five or so years ago. This new version is branded as the 25th Anniversary Edition and arrives with some really interesting packaging and some non disc swag seen in the accompanying hi res photos that may make it particularly interesting for some collectors.

For my thoughts on the film, please see my Requiem for a Dream 4K Blu-ray review, which itself contains a link pointing to Martin Liebman's review of the 1080 release.

Requiem for a Dream 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  4.0 of 5

Supplements on the 4K disc are detailed in my review, and supplements on the 1080 disc are detailed in Marty's review of that release. This probably qualifies as the most distinctive packaging from this month's Lionsgate Limited releases. This is housed in what amounts to a box with a hinged lid that is designed to look like an old fashioned television. That lid has a cheeky lenticular cover that offers several (well, three, anyway) different images depending on how the viewing angle is adjusted. Opening the lid then reveals another hinged cover that is a removable DigiPack which opens laterally to reveal the two discs (4K and 1080) housed within an image of the television being pushed on a cart. Also included is a folded mini poster and several art cards. A digital copy is also enclosed.

Requiem for a Dream 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  5.0 of 5

This particular Lionsgate Limited release is one focusing on packaging differences rather than offering any new on disc supplements and the like. That may initially disappointing to some, but the good news is all of the many previously released supplements are excellent, and the 4K presentation is solid. The kind of cheeky packaging this new edition offers should provide additional allure for collectors, especially those who may not have picked up Lionsgate's standard packaging 4K release from several years ago. Highly recommended.
