Recently, my sister is unusual is a surprisingly fun adult feature-film. Created by Mari Matsuzawa, Recently, my sister is unusual is a sexy romp with a lot of steamy sex scenes. Recently, my sister is unusual is well worth a watch for fans of seductive sexcapades.

 An entertaining adult film and one released in two versions – one an uncut adult-rated release and a shortened release (both versions are provided on the Discotek release). Recently, my sister is unusual features production by Kadokawa Shoten (Chaika - The Coffin Princess, Is This a Zombie?) and Pony Canyon (K-ON!, Kamisama Kiss). Produced by Hidehisa Chiwata (Girl’s Blood, The Miracles of the Namiya General Store), Ujikatsu Ohmori (Be My Slave, Sweet Whip), and Yûichi Shibahara (Bloody Chainsaw Girl, Bitter Sweet), Recently, my sister is unusual features a cast that includes Tenka Hashimoto, Mayu, Yūkichi Kobayashi, Kazue Akita, Mika Yano, and Reiko Hayama.

Recently, my sister is unusual was a surprising box-office success in Japan –due in part to the success of the manga it is based on. Fans of the original manga turned up for the live-action adaptation. Executive produced by Shin'ichirô Inoue (Legend of the Demon Cat, Sadako 2 3D), Masahiko Mizuguchi (A Stitch of Life, Orpheus' Lyre), and Takeshi Yasuda (Is this a Zombie?, Strike Witches), Recently, my sister is unusual is well worth a watch for fans of steamy adult films (with a plot-line).

Mitsuki Kanzaki (Tenka Hashimoto) wants to do well with school and have a good time with her stepbrother, too. Yet life keeps throwing strange new equations into the mix. Mitsuki finds herself becoming possessed by the sexy spirit Hiyori Kotobuki (Mayu), who is lusting after her stepbrother. Because Hiyori wants to bed her stepbrother, Mitsuki finds herself also lusting after her stepbrother, causing all sorts of confusion!

Meanwhile, Mitsuki is stuck with wearing a big chastity belt and she must find a way to break the chastity belt off in order to set the hot spirit Hiyori free. Otherwise, it could be all doom and gloom for both Mitsuki and Hiyori! What’s a girl to do? Attempting to get rid of the chastity belt, Mitsuki beds the spirit Hiyori and continues to lust after her stepbrother. Will a sexy romp help ultimately unlock the key to Hiyori’s ascension?

The performances are surprisingly good for an adult movie. The acting is solid and the cast clearly had fun in their respective roles. Recently, my sister is unusual features good performances by the three leading cast members – most notably the two female leads - Tenka Hashimoto and Mayu. The cast certainly enjoyed these over-the-top characters and roles and it shows in the film.

The art direction by Shûji Yamashita (Drops in Your Hand, Bitter Sweet) is decent for an adult feature and while the style might not be as good as a higher production budget feature, the effort is still surprisingly solid. Yamashita certainly helped the film feel like an actual film – which makes sense given the film’s eventual theatrical release.

One of the reasons the editing is worth discussion is the fact that different cuts of Recently, my sister is unusual exist – the editors had to not only produce a solid edit for the adult film marketplace but also one for the theatrical marketplace (with the 15+ cut of the feature). Both versions provide quite a bit of sex scenes and nudity but obviously the unrated cut has more extended and graphic sex scenes compared to the theatrical cut.

The cinematography by Yuji Imai (Shunkinshô, Karaage USA) is surprisingly excellent with Recently, my sister is unusual footage shot with 5K resolution cameras. The end result is that the cinematography looks vastly superior to some lower- quality adult productions. The cinematography is bright, vivid, rewarding – capable of highlighting all of the steamy action on screen.

The score composed by Hajimetal is one of the more average qualities in the film and the music doesn’t seem to add much. At the same time, the score doesn’t detract much from the film or experience. The music simply feels like decent background music and it doesn’t add as much to the filmmaking either.

Written by Iggy Coen and Takehiko Minato (Flower & Snake: Zero, Bitter Honey), Recently, my sister is unusual is a better told story than expected. There is a lot of conflict in the script as Mitsuki Kanzaki struggles with her lust for her stepbrother because of the possession of spirit Hiyori Kotobuki. The storyline explores these sexual fantasies and does so with a decent screenplay, providing actual characters alongside the sex scenes.

Directed by Yuki Aoyama, Recently, my sister is unusual is above-average adult filmmaking. The film is well-directed by Aoyama. The unrated director’s cut is obviously preferable for anyone wanting the entire experience. The unrated version is a lot more graphic with the sex scenes – and it is a more entertaining view as a result. Watching Mitsuki Kanzaki caress and seductively suck on the nipples of spirit Hiyori Kotobuki during their sexual encounters is one of the steamier parts of the film – with the two embracing in a variety of steamy positions. Drool, spit, and steamy licking make these scenes all the sexier and more enjoyable. Recently, my sister is unusual is a good watch for fans of adult films wanting something to enjoy – late-night or otherwise.

Released on Blu-ray by Discotek Media, Recently, my sister is unusual is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high-definition in the aspect ratio of 1.77:1 widescreen. Recently, my sister is unusual received a 2K digital intermediate from the Redcode RAW (5K source format). During production, Recently, my sister is unusual was shot using a high-end 5K Red Epic camera lens before it was transferred to the 2K DI and given a 35mm theatrical release. The result? Despite being a 2K DI (not a 4K DI), the presentation still looks remarkably crisp and detailed. The cinematography shines on the release. As a result, the sexy thrust of the actresses during sex and the beauty of their nipples looks all the better in high-definition and from such a high-quality source. Discotek Media did a great job with the encoding.

The release includes a selection of lossless audio options. The primary audio selection is Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (with English subtitles). A secondary and optional audio track is available on the release – Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 (with English subtitles). The lossless audio sounds crisp throughout the presentation. The audio is well balanced and the sound design is superior to some adult films. The audio soundstage is somewhat simple and laidback but it sounds nice and clear throughout the entire presentation. The subtitles are well-done and are free from grammatical errors.

The release comes with two unique cuts of the feature-film: the theatrical cut (HD, 1:46:36) and the director's cut (HD, 1:57:15). The theatrical cut is rated 15 and the director's cut is rated 18. For the director's cut, viewers will notice that the release has a lot of nudity and sex scenes cut from the theatrical cut.

The director's cut is almost an unrated cut – in a sense – as it has a lot of nudity, showcasing the actresses in various states of undress during the sex scenes. It is worth noting the theatrical cut still retains some of the nudity and sex scenes, but the director's cut is more explicit, featuring more sex than the theatrical release.

Recently, my sister is unusual is an entertaining adult film with steamy sex scenes. Fans of adult cinema with a storyline will find Recently, my sister is unusual a well-done watch with some solid performances by the cast. The sex scenes are entertaining and enjoyable – especially between the two female leads – watching them caress one another is a lot of fun.

The Blu-ray release has impressive high-definition video and lossless audio. The release also comes with a ton of supplements – with an extended making-of documentary, a premiere question-and-answer for the 15+ theatrical version, and tower-records video recording.
