Pulp Fiction 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman May 21, 2025

Paramount and Amazon have collaborated on a store exclusive release for the culturally significant and legendary film 'Pulp Fiction.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the UHD wide release. This is not a SteelBook release (that's already been released). Essentially, this is the standard release with a new slip box, a new (albeit very unique) slipcover, and few collectible cards and extra items. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on what's included, and see a few photographs of what's included as well.

Pulp Fiction 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  4.0 of 5

Paramount's special edition release of Pulp Fiction isn't quite as "special" as one might think. It's a solid package, but primarily it's the standard release with a unique slipcover and a slip box with a few extra add-ins for the serious fan (and clocking in at more than 3x the price of the standard UHD release at time of writing, it's for the really serious fan).

The main draw here is the slipcover with a flap that opens up like a children's pop-up book that shows the classic dancing scene with Vincent and Mia dancing at Jack Rabbit Slims, complete with the a background that includes some highlights from the sequence, like the red car, the trophy, the burger, and the $5 milkshake (which, sadly in 2025, doesn't seem all that outrageous anymore....sigh). It's neat and nifty, but it has a couple of drawbacks: one, it's not the sturdiest thing in the world and, two, it's not really meant to be a display piece; its natural inclination is to fall back down and close itself up, so even for the photo I had to weight it down. Yet, it's really unique. I have certainly never seen anything like it with a slipcover before. The front of the slipcover recreates the classic poster artwork with Mia Wallace lying on the bed, while the back is black with her quote "now I wanna dance, I wanna win, I want that trophy, so dance good" in yellow block letters. Also included is a series of additional odds and ends, including a handful of lobby cards, a sticker sheet with some of the more memorable content from the film, and a slightly larger card with small film frame images on it. All of that is housed in a black slip box with the film's title emblazoned in bold yellow across the front and a dictionary entry for the word "pulp" on the back.

...And that's it. For the price I was expecting far more. Maybe at $29.99 or even $34.99 I could see this going over much better (especially with the standard release at well under $20 at time of writing), but over $50? Too steep.
