Psycho-Pass: The Complete First Season Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman March 30, 2014
FUNimation Entertainment has started entering the "premium edition" product line that some of its anime releasing brethren like NIS America
and Aniplex have been putting out for some time now. These editions can tend to be quite pricey, but for fans with a particular interest in a
given
title, there's usually some significant swag and bonus material to be had in these amped up versions. This new Premium Edition of Psycho-
Pass collects together the four Blu-ray discs which were released in two two-disc editions (see below for links to reviews of those releases),
as well as some nice new bonus material. For a wrap up of the content of the series and the on disc supplements, click on the review links
below. This review will focus exclusively on the new bonus content (listed below in the Supplements section).

For a rundown of the on disc supplements, click on the reviews linked above. This Deluxe Edition also includes these bonus supplements:
- Original Soundtrack CDs. Two CDs of Yugo Kanno's evocative score are included (note to FUNimation: why list the composer's name
in an almost impossible to read miniscule font when you're going to the trouble of including his music on a Premium Edition?). Kanno's score is
quite diverse, dipping its toe into ambient, house, chill, techno and more straightforward orchestral cues. Several cues have some kind of
whimsical sound effects, and a lot have intense, quasi-Enoch Light, extreme stereo separation and ping ponging effects.
A cardboard box contains the following swag:
- ID Holder embossed with both FUNimation and Psycho-Pass logos.
- Logo Decal
- Card Case which contains a removable Keychain.
Psycho-Pass: The Complete First Season Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Psycho-Pass doesn't quite measure up to the Oshii material that seems to have inspired it, at least in style and tone if not exactly
in substance. Still, it's one of the more interesting anime to come down the pike recently, and this Premium Edition is attractively housed in a
sturdy rigid box (the first run evidently had some production problems which have since been ironed out). The soundtrack CDs are quite
enjoyable, showing how diverse the score to this series is, and the attendant swag, while a little random, is also a nice addition.
Recommended.
