Priscilla is a remarkable true-story adaptation. Based on the book "Elvis and Me" by Priscilla Presley and Sandra Harmon. Starring Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi.
Priscilla (Cailee Spaeny) meets Elvis (Jacob Elordi) and their world was never the same. The story is of the origin and romance of Priscilla Presley and Elvis Presley. The story follows the iconic romantic pair through their first meeting to their courtship, romance, and eventual marriage. The tale follows the ups and downs of the romance and everything that comes between them – including pages from the days at Graceland. This is Priscilla’s story.
Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi both deliver great performances. Cailee Spaeny is perfection as Priscilla. The performance is award winning and with good reason: Spaeny is an enormous talent who dove into the role with precision and dedication. Spaeny is also one of the most gorgeous actresses of her generation. Elordi is terrific as Elvis and plays well against Spaeny.

The score composed by Phoenix is engaging fun and continues to showcase why Phoenix is one of the best rock bands on the planet. The music adds to the experience and is essential to the filmmaking in subtle ways. Phoenix has been a favorite of mine for a long time (and I even attended a concert with Phoenix and Beck once – one of my favorite life experiences to date).
The cinematography by Philippe Le Sourd (The Beguiled, The Grandmaster) is gorgeous and a huge part of the charm of the film. The visuals are essential to the storytelling. The cinematography is lush and wondrous.
Edited by Sarah Flack (Lost in Translation, The Limey), Priscilla is a perfectly paced drama. The editing is exquisite. The rhythm of the filmmaking flows well.
The production designs by Tamara Deverell (Frankenstein, Nightmare Alley) are exceptional throughout. The effort is essential to the feature-film. Priscilla is all the better because of its production design cues.
The art direction by Danny Haeberlin (Chucky, Supergirl) and Shirin Rashid (Frankenstein, Nightmare Alley) is impressive and one of the best components of the feature. The art direction brings a lot of wonder to the production. A well-done effort across the board.
The costume designs by Stacey Battat (The Beguiled, The Bling Ring) are essential. One of the most important components of any film is the costume design efforts – and here more-so than ever. An astonishing effort for both of the main cast members and the designs are perfection.
Written for the screen and directed by Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides), Priscilla is an incredible cinematic achievement. The filmmaking is bold, ambitious, and electrifying. There is a lot of heart and pathos in the storytelling and performances. Coppola does a good job focusing on the heart of the story – this is Priscilla’s story more-so than anyone else. Elvis is also well portrayed and she shows both his humanity and flaws in equal measure. Coppola continues to prove why she is one of the best filmmakers of her generation.

Released on 4K UHD by MUBI, Priscilla is presented in HEVC / H.265 in 2160p in the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1 widescreen. The presentation features a high bit-rate encode of 73 mbps and features a high-dynamic-range grade. The HDR is provided in HDR10 (standard) and Dolby Vision. Exceptional HDR throughout the presentation. The colors and cinematography looks exquisite throughout. The results are a top-notch presentation.

The release includes a stunning Dolby Atmos sound presentation. The lossless, high-resolution 24 bit depth audio quality is exceptional. There is a lot to appreciate about the sound design. A subtle but enormously effective soundstage. A well-mixed feature-film and one that is impeccable. MUBI did exceptional with the encoding.

The first print run includes an o-card slipcover. The release comes packaged in a gorgeous clear case. The release also includes a nice selection of photo art cards with stills from the film.
