Pretty Peaches 3: The Quest Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Brian Orndorf January 31, 2016

The tour of tattered innocence continues in 1989’s “Pretty Peaches 3,” with director Alex de Renzy recruiting star Keisha to portray the titular temptress, a nymph who once again is in search of a bad education. Slowly leaving the adult film aesthetic of the 1980s behind, the helmer builds a more confident and plot-loaded “Pretty Peaches” event with the second sequel, sending his heroine into a world populated with questionable people looking to exploit and contain the wonder of a sexually eager young woman.

There’s some connective tissue between sequels, with Tracey Adams returning to play Peaches’s mother, who doesn’t necessarily want to find her little girl after discovering the carnal delights of her not-too-distraught boyfriend. As for the main character, her tour of experience takes her on a long ride around the west coast, encountering amorous blondes in a monastery, a televangelist (Jamie Gillis) and his accommodating wife (Victoria Paris), and there’s medical help from Dr. Thunderpussy (Rachel Ryan), who isn’t quite the professional her name implies. Sex often breaks out, but de Renzy is careful to coax a story along, building Peaches into a revolutionary figure of sorts as she begins to develop a worldly point of view.

Pretty Peaches 3: The Quest Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  3.5 of 5

There's more of a defined issue with the AVC encoded image (1.78:1 aspect ratio) presentation for "Pretty Peaches 3." Splice marks are visible during the viewing experience, with intensity of these white flashes fluctuating throughout (the last screencap shows what this looks like). Without the significant funds to go in and erase the marks, Vinegar Syndrome does what it can with the source, which otherwise looks terrific, boasting heavy filmic grain and generous detail for a 16mm-shot production. Color is true and vivid, keeping up with costuming and nudity. Delineation goes as far as it can with evening sequences. Source shortcomings are unfortunate, but they tend to lose intensity once familiarity sets in.

Pretty Peaches 3: The Quest Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  3.0 of 5

The 1.0 DTS-HD MA sound mix doesn't carry the same definition as "Pretty Peaches 2," presenting a muddier track that delivers the basics, but never crisply. Dialogue exchanges are acceptable, but performance extremes reach fuzziness, while scoring is on the loud side, competing for attention. It's not the most dynamic listening event, but the mix is secure when exploring the basics of sexual response, while atmospherics with city adventures are agreeable. A low buzzing noise, barely noticeable, runs throughout.

Pretty Peaches 3: The Quest Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.5 of 5

"Pretty Peaches 3" isn't nearly as light as its previous installment, missing fresher attempts at comedy, while the third act highlights a disturbing relationship between Peaches and a con man who tries to be her pimp. Despite dramatic shortcomings, "Pretty Peaches 3" offers the essentials in adult cinema, with plenty of bedroom activity to cover for a general draining of spirit.
