From Basil Dearden, the renowned director of Dead of Night, The Captive Heart, The Mind Benders, Woman of Straw, Masquerade and The Man Who Haunted Himself, comes this 1951 Ealing classic filmed on location in London’s legendary River Thames. Everything changes for two sailors on shore leave when they inadvertently become caught up in a crime as murky as the great river itself. For one of them, Johnny (Earl Cameron, The Interpreter), life is further complicated when he falls in love with Pat (Susan Shaw, It Always Rains on Sunday), a local ticket seller, forming one of the first interracial relationships in British film history. Jack Whittingham (Thunderball) and John Eldridge (Operation Amsterdam) co-wrote this authentic and unmissable film noir beautifully shot in glorious black-and-white by Gordon Dines (The Blue Lamp).
