Platoon Leader / Soldier Boyz Blu-ray Movie Review

Perhaps Michael Dudikoff never achieved mainstream stardom, but the man starred in a lot of movies. Two have been plucked out of obscurity for this Blu-ray release, with Kino Lorber pairing 1988’s “Platoon Leader” and 1995’s “Solider Boyz,” creating a double feature of films that spotlight Dudikoff making a mess out of Vietnam. While both pictures are set in the same corner of the world, they are quite different in intensity, with “Platoon Leader” glacial and repetitive, while “Solider Boyz” is happy to blow up anything it can get its hands on, cranking up the machismo. And there’s plenty of Dudikoff to share, showcasing two performances that ask very little of him beyond cold stares and barked orders.

The Blu-ray set isn't perfect, with "Platoon Leader" not looking its best for its HD debut. And a lack of supplementary material (outside of trailers) is a disappointment, as the features could benefit from a little additional explanation, preferably from Dudikoff. The disc is aimed at fans, and while quality could be greatly improved, some just might be happy to have a bit more Dudikoff in their lives.
