Paramount has widely released a Blu-ray SteelBook packaging variant for the the classic 1987 John Hughes film 'Planes, Trains & Automobiles.' The disc is identical to that found in the 2012 Blu-ray. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Paramount's glossy-smooth SteelBook depicts Neal, front-center, and Del, front-right, sitting in a terminal. Large windows with a snowy exterior appear
behind them. Del is sitting on his oversized footlocker. Neal's luggage is beside him on the ground. The film's title appears above them as if on an
airport information board with yellow letters on a dark gray/black background. Hughes, Martin, and Candy's names appear in white across the top. The
rear panel is is glossy black with a burning ticket center. "13e" is circled and a couple of airplanes in silhouette also appear on the ticket. The film's title
appears in yellow against a black background on the spine, filling most of the real estate. A Paramount logo appears at the top and the words "2-Disc
Set" and a Blu-ray logo appear at the bottom.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one DVD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in
staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features Del and Neal sitting in the charred car (which is not fit for the road),
looking a bit behind them and smiling. They are firmly on the left; the right side includes the rest of what remains of the car.

This is hardly the most visually arresting SteelBook on the market, but it works well enough. What would have been nicer would have been a 4K disc inside, as this film deserves, or at least remastered as part of the prestigious "Paramount Presents" line. Recommended.
