Phobia 2 Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Neil Lumbard October 22, 2025

Phobia 2 continues the Thai horror film series. The second installment in the horror anthology. Executive produced by Paiboon Damrongchaitham, Boosaba Daorueng, Jina Osothsilp, and Visute Poolvoralaks, rhe horror anthology film explores five tales of fear and addiction to fear.

One tale in the anthology is about hungry ghosts trying to fulfill their appetites. A second story in the anthology is about someone comatose in a braindead state of being. A third story is about a group of young actors with big aspirations. A fourth story is about a car salesman who will do anything to get a sale. A fifth story is about a group of backpacking tourists who carelessly find themselves entering a dangerous situation while traveling.

Composed by Toy Terdsak Janpan (segments "Ward", "Backpackers", "Salvage") and Chatchai Pongprapaphan (segments "Novice", "In the End"), the score is one of the nicest and most consistent qualities across the anthology shorts in the second installment. The music is a solid backdrop to each of the anthology short films. A well-done effort overall.

The cinematography by Naruphol Chokanapitak (segment "Novice"), Jira Maligool (segments "Ward", "Salvage"), Somboon Piriyapukdeekul (segments "Ward", "Salvage") (as Somboon Piriyapakdeekul), Paween Purijitpanya (segment "Salvage"), and Niramon Ross (segments "Backpackers", "In the End") impresses. The visuals are a big part of the anthology horror filmmaking. The visuals add to the genre quality in spades. There is plenty worth appreciating about the genre sensibilities of the cinematography.

Edited by Paween Purijitpanya (segment "Novice"), Thammarat Sumethsupachok, (segments "Novice", "Ward", "Backpackers", "Salvage", "In the End"), and Boonsak Watanavisit (segment "Novice"), the impressive editorial vision allows for the filmmaking to flow even better and be more fun and compelling for audiences. The editing style showcases the creative sensibilities of the editors. Throughout the second installment, good editing allows for the anthology to flow better and it arguably is a bit more impressively done than the first anthology.

The production design by Komkrit Chuknam (segments "Novice", "Ward", "Salvage"), Kanuang Dumkeaw (segment "Novice"), Surat Kadeeroj (segment "In the End"), and Sutham Vilawandaj (segment "Backpackers") are well done. The designs add to the filmmaking. The aesthetic works well, highlighting the genre elements in spades. The art direction by Kornkrit Chuknarn (segment "Backpackers"), Thapanapat Mettawiwat (segments "Ward", "Salvage"), and Pratchawin Petkrod (segment "In the End") similarly is well highlighted and makes a nice impression across the different shorts in the horror anthology sequel.

Written by Nitis Napichayasutin (segment "Novice") & Paween Purijitpanya (segment "Novice"), Sophon Sakdaphisit (segment "Ward") & Parkpoom Wongpoom (segment "Ward"), Songyos Sugmakanan (segment "Backpackers") & Sopana Chaowwiwatkul (segment "Backpackers"), Sophon Sakdaphisit (segment "Salvage") & Parkpoom Wongpoom (segment "Salvage"), Banjong Pisanthanakun (segment "In the End") & Mez Tharatorn (segment "In the End") & Chantavit Dhanasevi (segment "In the End"), the writing can be a bit inconsistent across the different anthology shorts but the end result is still fun and there is plenty of entertainment for horror fans. A solid effort all around from the team even despite some shortcomings in a few shorts.

Directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun (segment "In the End"), Visute Poolvoralaks (segment "Ward"), Paween Purijitpanya (segment "Novice"), Songyos Sugmakanan (segment "Backpackers"), and Parkpoom Wongpoom (segment "Salvage"), Phobia 2 continues the franchise with some fun, unsettling, and entertaining genre shorts. The horror anthology feature does a good job overall and audiences will find the second installment a solid follow up to the first – arguably it is the better of the two anthology horror features.

Phobia 2 Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  3.5 of 5

Released on Blu-ray by Umbrella Entertainment, Phobia 2 is presented in the original theatrical aspect ratio. The high-definition video is pleasing overall. The transfer looks more pleasing and even more natural in comparison to the first film in the anthology horror film series. The second installment transfer is a bit more colorful and robust looking overall. Even so, it looks like it could have potentially benefited from a 4K restoration.

Phobia 2 Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  3.5 of 5

The Thai audio sounds reasonably good on the release. Dialogue is clear and well reproduced. The score and soundstage are well handled overall. A solid audio encoding.

Phobia 2 Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.0 of 5

Phobia 2 is an entertaining horror anthology showcasing the talents of a myriad of Thai horror filmmakers. A good follow up to the original installment, Phobia 2 is arguably the superior entry. The Blu-ray release features a solid high-definition transfer. Recommended.
