Operation Petticoat Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality

Presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1, encoded with MPEG-4 AVC and granted a 1080p transfer, Operation Petticoat arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Eureka Entertainment.
In the United States, this film received two different high-definition releases via Olive Films. The second release, which is part of the label's Signature Series, was sourced from a digital remaster that was prepared in 2017. Eureka Entertainment's release is sourced from this remaster.
The quality of this remaster ranges from decent to good, and if you have seen our review of the Olive Films release then you already know exactly why -- good digital work was done to stabilize and in some cases enhance various organic qualities, but underlying issues remain. For example, there are obvious density fluctuations that affect delineation and fluidity. As a result, it is often easy to see that depth isn't optimal. Also, the entire film has a native 'thick' appearance, which suggests that the element that was used to produce the original master is a generation, maybe even two, away from the OCN. The color scheme promotes some healthy primaries and nuances, but there is definitely room for meaningful stabilizations and better saturation. Lastly, some dirt spots, specks and even tiny scratches remain. (Note: This is a Region-B "locked" Blu-ray release. Therefore, you must have a native Region-A or Region-Free player in order to access its content),
Operation Petticoat Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality

There is only one standard audio track on this Blu-ray release: English LPCM 2.0. Optional English SDH subtitles are provided for the main feature.
In our review of the Olive Films release of Operation Petticoat I mentioned that I was quite happy with the quality of the lossless track. I have not changed my mind. The audio is clean, stable, and with a good range of dynamic nuances. Would a brand new remix produce better results? I don't know. It is possible that some cosmetic enhancement may introduce minor improvements, but I think that they would be 'cosmetic'. Again, I like the quality of the current lossless track.

Operation Petticoat Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

Eureka Entertainment's release of Blake Edwards' film Operation Petticoat is sourced from the same remaster U.S. label Olive Films prepared for its Signature Edition in 2017. It is a decent master, but there are limitations on it that only a full-blown 4K restoration can eliminate. Also, on this release the only bonus feature is a vintage trailer for the film, while on the Signature Edition there is quite a bit of exclusive content. Consider a purchase only if you can find this release on sale.
