Onward 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Disney and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for the 2020 digitally animated Pixar film 'Onward.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Onward 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras 

Onward's front and rear panels, which are fairly smooth but not excessively glossy and fingerprint attracting, depicts Barley's denim vest and various adornments laid atop it. On the front, there's an image of the Unicorn van center, the staff and the Phoenix Gem top right, and a unicorn peeking out of a trash can bottom left. The rear panel is much the same but with different items. The audio cassette Ian treasures, which houses a recording of his father, appears top middle. A sword appears on the bottom, situated more towards the left. The spine is a dark maroon, almost brown, color with the film's title, accompanied by "Disney Pixar" text, in white, center. An UltraHD logo has been placed at the top.

Inside, the digital copy code floats; there are no tabs. There are three hubs to hold the discs, a single on the left and a double, in staggered-stacked formation, on the right. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features several key characters from the film appearing in front of a dense city street location. These include a unicorn snacking from the trash, Colt Bronco, Laurel Lightfoot, Corey The Manticore, Ian, Barley, and the boys' father's bottom half.

Onward 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

Onward can't quite match Pixar's finest, but it is nevertheless quintessential Pixar for its heart, humor, and humanity. The SteelBook is busy, but in a good way. It's very reflective of the movie's essentials, inside and out, and the on-disc content is excellent, too, even if the audio is imperfect. Very highly recommended.
