One Piece: Collection 36 is an exciting action-packed adventure. Based on the beloved manga by original creator Eiichiro Oda, One Piece: Collection 36 includes episodes 867-891. The series features animation production by Toei Animation (Dragon Ball Z, Digimon Adventure 02). Produced by Yoshihiro Suzuki (GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka, Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture). The series provides enormous action, spectacle, and wonder. Released on physical media and via streaming by Crunchyroll, One Piece: Collection 36 provides the magic and adventure fans have come to expect from the beloved anime production. The most popular and long-running anime series of all time.
Luffy has new adventures going against the Katakuri. Luffy and Sanji soon find themselves in a perilous trap. The Vinsmokes are also in on the action with the characters embarking on a rescue mission that could provide a chance at redemption.
Big Mom’s cake also helps to calm her and bring a sense of soothing tranquility. Oven’s ship is also in pursuit and the journey continues. Luffy’s Fifth Emperor also leads to new missions.
Sabo works to free Kuma from captivity. The World Nobles and Revolutionary Army embark on an epic war with one another. The journey continues.
One of the greatest elements of One Piece is the entertaining adventures had by the Straw Hat Pirates. The fun cast of characters are essential to the heart of the production. The characters set forth on new, exciting, and fun adventures. The cast of characters includes Monkey D. Luffy (Mayumi Tanaka), Nami (Akemi Okamura), Sanji (Hiroaki Hirata), Tony Tony Chopper (Ikue Ōtani), Usopp (Kappei Yamaguchi), Franky (Kazuki Yao), Roronoa Zoro (Kazuya Nakai), Brook (Yūichi Nagashima), and Nico Robin (Yuriko Yamaguchi).
The characters are wonderful and there is a lot of joy in the cast. The entire ensemble impresses in spades. The characters each have distinct personalities and qualities that make it all the more enjoyable. The journey of Luffy and friends is something wonderful. The characters are great, providing a sense of wonder to the saga.

The Straw Hat Pirates are full of energy and a sense of endearing wonder. It is difficult to imagine the series without a more charming cast of characters – the fun characters essential to the entire saga. Tony Tony Chopper remains one of my personal favorite characters –a joyful sense of energy, wonder, and magic – and similar in some respects to the iconic Pokemon character, Pikachu.
The character designs are well done. The designs by Noboru Koizumi (One Piece: The Curse of the Sacred Sword, One Piece Special: Adventure in the Ocean's Navel) certainly seem to showcase the entire fun ensemble well. The character designs are superb. The sense of wonder in the designs is top-notch throughout. The designs are true to the manga series, too. A fantastic effort all around.
One Piece: Collection 36 continues to showcase wonderful animation. The animation is one of the best qualities of the series. One Piece features animation direction by Keiichi Ichikawa (One Piece: Heart of Gold, One Piece: Episode of Sabo). The animation remains gorgeous and as one of the best qualities of the production. The animators brought something special to the table – great production values and wonder. The animators bring an A-level game to the anime series. The creativity is outstanding, too.
The cinematography by Hirosato Ōnishi (Digimon Adventure, One Piece: The Desert Princess and the Pirates: Adventure in Alabasta) is impressive in spades. The cinematography provides a lush, bright, colorful, and fun aesthetic to the table. The cinematography is special and there is so much for the production to showcase. The animation looks all the better, too.
The score is composed by Kōhei Tanaka (Galaxy Express 999: Eternal Fantasy, Project A-ko: Uncivil Wars) and Shiroh Hamaguchi (The Princess and the Pilot, One Piece Special – Adventure of Nebulandia). The score is top-notch and is one of the best qualities of the entire series. The theme music is undeniably compelling and provides a lot of wonder to the series.
The music a great reflection of the series adventure – bringing so much energy to the table. The action is all the better, too. Outstanding and compelling. The music perfectly working to highlight the characters as well as the epic journey.
Written by Shoji Yonemura (Pokémon Journeys: The Series, Digimon Fusion), One Piece: Collection 36 is well-done. The scripting is one of the fun qualities of the production. The series is one of the best and most essential creations from a storytelling perspective. One Piece always manages to create some terrific fun. The writing is perfect at showcasing the entire cast of characters and their epic action-packed mission together. The storytelling fun, ambitious, and well worthwhile.
Directed by Toshinori Fukazawa (Toriko, Digimon: Data Squad), One Piece: Collection 36 brings a lot of wonder to the production. One Piece is the longest running anime in history. The anime is one of the best and most beloved anime series. The series became a cultural landmark – one of the biggest and most significant productions to ever come out of Japan. The manga, for example, is always on the top of the bestseller list and continues to be hugely popular in both Japan and North America. The fandom is enormous and that is always one of the great strengths of One Piece.

Released on Blu-ray by Crunchyroll, One Piece: Collection 36 is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high-definition in the original television broadcast aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. The series has an incredible high-definition presentation. The visuals are outstanding and there is so much to love and appreciate about the production. The animation is bold and beautiful – the line art similarly well detailed. The encoding by Crunchyroll is well done.
The video quality is excellent and there is so much to appreciate about the high-definition transfer. The presentation quality looks stunning in native high-definition. The transfer is a step above the lower quality standard-definition upscales of earlier seasons. The presentation has plenty of "pop" and manages to make a wonderful impression overall.
One of the strengths of physical media is the video quality. Streaming video services tend to offer lower quality video by comparison. Physical media often provides higher bit-rates and more consistent video compression. There can sometimes be subtle differences that make a difference for physical media collectors.

The release includes a selection of lossless audio options: English Dolby TrueHD 2.0 and Japanese Dolby TrueHD 2.0 (with English subtitles). The lossless audio is crisp and makes a wonderful impression. The presentation is outstanding. The robust and detailed audio soundstage makes a massive impression overall. The release impresses by offering both the English language and Japanese language audio versions. The score is certainly an outstanding highlight of the release.

The release comes packaged in a large oversized DVD case. The case is a standard clear and large clamps-style case. The box-set also comes with an o-card slipcover. The release provides both the Blu-ray and DVD discs in the one case. The set is designed to match the other releases in the Collection line and add to the aesthetic of the releases. Fans will appreciate the consistency and how it matches up with the other box sets. Even despite these qualities, the set would have been nicer being in a nice standard Blu-ray case or steelbook case packaging.
Unfortunately, the release is somewhat sparse in terms of the supplements. The box-set could have been more robust with a better bonus features selection. The extras would have been better with some audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes documentaries, making-of featurettes, cast/crew interviews, photo galleries, art galleries, and more. The results would have been better on the whole. In an era of streaming as well as physical media, it is nice to see physical releases with more robust supplemental packages – adding extra value to entice potential purchasers to get the physical copy.

One Piece: Collection 36 continues to reward fans with more exciting action-adventure. The anime series is one of the best of all time. The series has an incredible fanbase. Luffy and the rest continue to provide excitement for fans of the series. The longest running and most popular anime series of all time.
The Blu-ray provides a nice high-definition presentation. The release also includes nice lossless audio encoding. The supplemental package is somewhat sparse but that is the only significant drawback. Everything else impresses in spades. The release also comes with an o-card slipcover. The set is packaged in a standard, oversized clear DVD case. Fans will be pleased with the release. Well worthwhile. Recommended.
