One Piece: Collection 30 continues to bring more exciting and thrilling action-packed adventures with the lovable band of Straw Hat Pirates. The beloved Japanese anime series has been a staple on Cartoon Network in North America. The series was licensed for release on home media by Crunchyroll, who also handles streaming rights. The series is adapted from the original manga by Eiichiro Oda. The 30th collection brings more exciting fun to the table for fans of the long-running anime franchise.
The exciting adventures of One Piece are more fun with the lovable cast of characters at the charge: Monkey D. Luffy (Mayumi Tanaka), Tony Tony Chopper (Ikue Ōtani), Nami (Akemi Okamura), Usopp (Kappei Yamaguchi), Franky (Kazuki Yao), Sanji (Hiroaki Hirata), Brook (Yūichi Nagashima), Roronoa Zoro (Kazuya Nakai), Miss Wednesday (Misa Watanabe), and Nico Robin (Yuriko Yamaguchi). These fun and exuberant characters continue to experience more adventures at sea and beyond. The series simply wouldn’t be the same without Monkey D. Luffy as the incredible leader of the Straw Hat Pirates.
The 30th collection continues the adventures of Luffy and his merry band of aides – and there is plenty of excitement. As a big showdown ensues between Luffy and the villainous Doflamingo, the stakes for the latest battle grow bigger and bigger. Zorro must set out on his own mission as the sword-wielding aid – pushing himself to help stop the Birdcage from destroying them.
Meanwhile, Luffy faces even more challengers with Sabo causing more problems than bargained for. Yet Sabo seeks to help save him from doom. Even so, the Navy is back with a vengeance and the Straw Hat Pirates may have to think quick in order to survive the game of cat-and- mouse.
One Piece features an incredible roster of characters and these heroes are essential to success of the series. It is no surprise that the original manga became such a runaway success in Japan and is now a powerhouse series worldwide. Audiences can relate to these characters and their determination to succeed. In addition to the fun-tastic Luffy (with his gum-gum power to stretch his body like rubber), who remains the steadfast hero of the epic tale, the supporting players continue to shine as well. The heroics and charm of Nami are essential to her heroic journey. Zoro wields his mighty blade and has some fantastic fun in his swashbuckling adventures in the 30th collection.
Set sail for more exciting adventures.
The breathtaking animation is one of the key elements that makes One Piece an outstanding success. The art style is vibrant and beautiful. The superb animation direction by Kazuya Hisada (Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT) continues to demonstrate a sense of serenity on a huge scale. The production is ambitious and involving. Simply put, everything from the background art to line art is exceptional.
Eiichiro Oda crafted exceptional character designs for the original manga. The anime faithfully adapts these designs. Adapted for television by Kazuya Hisada, the creativity of the original designs is well demonstrated on the anime series. Part of the inherent joy of One Piece is the creative art style (essential to the character designs). Oda is a master artist and these incredible characters are exceptionally animated. The designs for the anime series are top-notch through-and-through.
Featuring an original score composed by Kōhei Tanaka (Angelic Layer, Desert Punk) and Shiroh Hamaguchi (Final Fantasy: Unlimited, Ah! My Goddess), One Piece: Collection 30 continues demonstrating the exuberant energy of the original series music. The score is entertaining fun. An outstanding crescendo of energy and excitement by composers Tanaka and Hamaguchi. So much energy. So much joy. The score is essential and the themes are endlessly charming.
One of the other elements of the production essential to its success is the sublime action sequencing. The action scenes are some of the most energetic scenes in action-anime history. The 30th set of the series continues to deliver action-packed fun for series fans. The action is never dull and this is the backdrop of the series that keeps many fans returning. The latest battles are as epic as always.
Hirohiko Uesaka (One Piece Episode of Sabo, One Piece Film Strong World) brings the One Piece anime to life. Adapting the source material of Oda, Uesaka does a solid job of showcasing the same type of energy and originality of the manga. Fans of the manga will also enjoy the anime series as it has an excellent balance of action-packed fun and character-driven storytelling.
Directed by Toshinori Fukazawa (Zatch Bell, Digimon: Data Squad), One Piece remains one of the most entertaining and beautiful anime series of all time. Few anime series have such a wonderful sense of scope and scale. Fukazawa is a gifted filmmaker and the sense of visual finesse in the directing is a wonderful component of the adaptation. Fans of the series will find the 30th collection worthwhile.
Arriving from Crunchyroll, One Piece: Collection 30 is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high definition in the original television broadcast aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. A beautiful anime series, the transition from full-frame to widescreen was something that greatly enhanced the epic scope of the production and these episodes continue that tradition. The HD presentation by Crunchyroll is excellent and showcases the beautiful artistry of the animation.
The release includes a selection of lossless audio options: English Dolby TrueHD 2.0 stereo and Japanese Dolby TrueHD 2.0 stereo (with English subtitles). The lossless audio quality on the release is top-notch. Dialogue is remarkably crisp and easy to understand. The original score is well reproduced and the recording quality is exceptional. The exciting sound effects are well implemented in to the stereo imaging. A solid encode from Crunchyroll.
