One Piece: Collection 27 is another thrilling collection of episodes in the beloved anime franchise. The series adapts the original manga created by Eiichiro Oda. Collection 27 includes episodes 642-667 of the series. The production is licensed by Funimation Entertainment in North America. Broadcast on Cartoon Network in the United States, the series remains one of the most popular anime creations worldwide. Produced by Yoshihiro Suzuki (Dragon League, Turn A Gundam), One Piece features animation production by Fuji Television Network and Toei Animation.
Doflamingo and his gang of cronies continue to wreck havoc. There is now a dangerous hostage situation and the stakes are raised to their breaking threshold. As the competition ensues, a huge confrontation in Block D of the battle arena leads to even more menacing trouble.
A gladiator comes forth and may hold the power to sway the arena in a new direction. Yet the battle arena might not even be the biggest concern: underneath the Colosseum is the truth behind the early days of Dressrosa and the formation of the dark kingdom. Can Luffy and the other Straw Hat Pirates overcome these obstacles?
One of the best elements of the One Piece series is the expansive cast of characters: Monkey D. Luffy (Mayumi Tanaka), Sanji (Hiroaki Hirata), Nami (Akemi Okamura), Tony Tony Chopper (Ikue Ōtani), Usopp (Kappei Yamaguchi), Roronoa Zoro (Kazuya Nakai), Franky (Kazuki Yao), Miss Wednesday (Misa Watanabe), Nico Robin (Yuriko Yamaguchi), and Brook (Yūichi Nagashima) are the primary characters. The series revolves around the high sea adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates and their unexpected journeys across the globe.
The characters are some of the best in anime history. Luffy is one of the most undeniably charming protagonists in anime. The character has an unending sense of charm that is remarkably spirited. The enthusiasm and excitement of Luffy radiates throughout the entire production.
The supporting cast of characters on One Piece are excellent as well. Nami is one of the most entertaining heroes: fighting with all her spirit to be one of the best leaders of the Straw Hat Pirates. Tony Tony Chopper is an abundantly cute and cuddly side- kick, enhancing the adventures at each turn of the story. Zoro is (unsurprisingly) the sword-wielding master and he manages to bring the dust up during many action sequences.
The battle continues.
The animation is breathtaking and full of wonder. The chief animation direction of Kazuya Hisada (Dragon Ball Z , Dragon Ball GT) is vibrant and engaging throughout the production. One Piece consistently showcases a wonderful use of color: providing the animated adventures with a fun, engaging, and unique aesthetic that is undeniably compelling.
The character designs by Kazuya Hisada expertly adapt the original designs. The characters are quite extraordinary and their respective designs help to convey the personalities of these heroes. The series finds strength in creativity: the character designs are often distinctive and unique in ways that many other anime series fail to replicate. There is a clear vision for the entire world of One Piece.
One Piece: Collection 27 includes intensive action sequences. The fight scenes are one of the essential elements of the production. There is a sense of the animators delivering an epic scope throughout the series. The epic confrontations between the characters is entertaining and will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
The score composed by Shiroh Hamaguchi (Final Fantasy: Unlimited, Ah! My Goddess) and Kōhei Tanaka (Angelic Layer, Desert Punk) is energetic and entertaining. The music finds the perfectly balanced rhythm necessary to tell the story. The score lifts the energy of the production forward: providing whimsy and excitement whenever it is needed. Hamaguchi provides one of the best anime scores of all time with One Piece.
Written by Hirohiko Uesaka (One Piece Episode of Sabo, One Piece Film Strong World), adapting the beloved manga, the adventures are as entertaining as always. One Piece is one of the most engaging productions in anime and with good reason: the characters are well-written. Even when the series explores long-form action saga storytelling, the characters are wonderful and help make the fun exuberant in all the right ways.
Directed by Hiroaki Miyamoto (One Piece: Film Gold), One Piece: Collection 27 is a blast of action-packed adventure. Miyamoto delivers the goods fans have come to expect: an adrenaline rush of top notch action scenes, uproarious comedy, and an unending sense of whimsy. Miyamoto is a gifted filmmaker and there is so much to appreciate about his efforts on One Piece.
Arriving on Blu-ray from Funimation Entertainment, One Piece: Collection 27 is presented in 1080i MPEG-4 AVC encoded high definition in the original television broadcast aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. The anime series has made a wonderful transition from standard-definition to high- definition. There is a nice boost in color reproduction and the animation looks stellar throughout. The presentation shines with outstanding depth and detail. The encoding is solid and looks much better than most interlaced video presentations.
The release includes a selection of audio options: English Dolby TrueHD 2.0 and Japanese Dolby TrueHD 2.0 (with English subtitles). The high- resolution audio options are fantastic. Fans of the production will be pleased with the lossless audio quality. Dialogue is crisp, clear, and easy to understand. The score is well integrated in to the sound mix. Sound effects are well balanced.

One Piece: Collection 27 continues to showcase the exciting adventures of Luffy and his companions. The series is one of the most entertaining and engaging anime series in television history with good reason: the production has unending charm. The action sequences continue to be a blast of high octane energy.
The animation is beautiful to behold. One Piece looks excellent in high-definition. Fans of the series will be pleased with the results: Funimation has transitioned to Blu-ray for these native high-definition episodes and there is reason to celebrate. Highly recommended.
