Announced forever ago and finally released almost five months after the separate movie-only 4K and Blu-ray editions, Warner Bros. finally gives Paul Thomas Anderson's Best Picture-winning One Battle After Another the deluxe Limited Edition Steelbook treatment. Featuring both formats in one handy package and a bonus Blu-ray disc with over an hour of high-quality extras, it's the definitive version of this divisive but entertaining drama. The only catch? It's already pretty tough to find (even if you pre-ordered it last October), and for some might already be out of reach.

For details about each transfer on the UHD (2160p/HDR10/Dolby Vision) and Blu-ray (1080p/SDR) disc, please refer back to my separate reviews of Warner Bros.' standard 4K and Blu-ray editions.

Similarly, my thoughts about the Dolby Atmos audio (identical on both discs) can be found at the linked reviews.
Optional subtitles, including English (SDH), are offered during the main feature as well as the extras listed below; as in theaters, much of the sporadic Spanish dialogue is not translated but often easily understood in context.

This three-disc release ships in Steelbook packaging that will instantly tell you if One Battle After Another is right for you. The front cover depicts the infamous scene of a pregnant Perfida Beverly Hills (Teyana Taylor) shooting a machine gun, while her adult daughter Willa Ferguson (Chase Infiniti) follows suit on the back. Inside is reserved for the fellas, with a simple splash still of "Ghetto" Pat Calhoun (Leonardo DiCaprio) pleading with Sergio St. Carlos (Benicio del Toro). Also included is a 24-page booklet with behind-the-scenes stills by photographer Merrick Morton.
As for the extras, they're all on an exclusive Blu-ray bonus disc; slim in number but of very high quality. This applies to the visuals as well, since everything was reportedly shot, edited, and finished on 16mm film rather than video.

Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another fits right in with his diverse body of work, yet it still feels like bold new territory for the celebrated writer-director. Its subject matter may prove divisive to some for clear-cut reasons, but it's an objectively well-made film with great performances, unforgettable moments, and a few enormously entertaining stretches that mostly keep its formidable runtime at bay. Warner Bros.' belated but welcome 4K/Blu-ray Limited Edition Steelbook finally adds some much-needed bonus features (and very good ones at that) in addition to both formats in collectible packaging... so if you can track down this bad boy, pick it up ASAP. Highly Recommended.
