One Battle After Another 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

"What time is it?" Too late to buy this, probably.

Reviewed by Randy Miller III June 7, 2026

Announced forever ago and finally released almost five months after the separate movie-only 4K and Blu-ray editions, Warner Bros. finally gives Paul Thomas Anderson's Best Picture-winning One Battle After Another the deluxe Limited Edition Steelbook treatment. Featuring both formats in one handy package and a bonus Blu-ray disc with over an hour of high-quality extras, it's the definitive version of this divisive but entertaining drama. The only catch? It's already pretty tough to find (even if you pre-ordered it last October), and for some might already be out of reach.

As for the film itself, a synopsis and appreciation of One Battle After Another can be found in my review of the standard 4K edition, linked above. While certain elements of this film absolutely might make it irksome or even repulsive to certain audiences, I enjoyed it thoroughly and believe it to be at least deserving of its Oscar nominations.

For details about each transfer on the UHD (2160p/HDR10/Dolby Vision) and Blu-ray (1080p/SDR) disc, please refer back to my separate reviews of Warner Bros.' standard 4K and Blu-ray editions.

Similarly, my thoughts about the Dolby Atmos audio (identical on both discs) can be found at the linked reviews.

Optional subtitles, including English (SDH), are offered during the main feature as well as the extras listed below; as in theaters, much of the sporadic Spanish dialogue is not translated but often easily understood in context.

One Battle After Another 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  3.5 of 5

This three-disc release ships in Steelbook packaging that will instantly tell you if One Battle After Another is right for you. The front cover depicts the infamous scene of a pregnant Perfida Beverly Hills (Teyana Taylor) shooting a machine gun, while her adult daughter Willa Ferguson (Chase Infiniti) follows suit on the back. Inside is reserved for the fellas, with a simple splash still of "Ghetto" Pat Calhoun (Leonardo DiCaprio) pleading with Sergio St. Carlos (Benicio del Toro). Also included is a 24-page booklet with behind-the-scenes stills by photographer Merrick Morton.

As for the extras, they're all on an exclusive Blu-ray bonus disc; slim in number but of very high quality. This applies to the visuals as well, since everything was reportedly shot, edited, and finished on 16mm film rather than video.

  • Camera, Lighting, and Costume Tests (6:12) - This stylish collage of behind-the-scenes clips and other rehearsal footage is set to Gil Scott-Heron's immortal "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" and portions of Jonny Greenwood's original score with occasional interjections by Teyana Taylor. (Screenshot #1)

  • Chase Infiniti Screen Test (11:20) - The talented young actor performs several scenes from the script alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and a few other crew members. (Screenshot #6)

  • Learning, Studying... Always Perfecting: The Making of One Battle After Another (52:51) - This mostly cinéma vérité centerpiece, directed by filmmaker Jacob "Kuba" Bojsza, gives us a fly-on-the-wall glimpse of key scenes and other moments during the filming process. Besides for a gaggle of mostly uncredited crew members, featured participants include Paul Thomas Anderson, Leo DiCaprio, Chase Infiniti, Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn, Adam Somner, Pearl Minnie Anderson, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor, all of whom are allowed to just do their thing rather than those traditional talking-head interviews. (Screenshots #3,4,7)

  • The Cutting Rooms (7:51) - This terrific featurette is probably the most traditional extra of the bunch; it features assistant film editor Andrew Blustain (and later, negative cutter Jim Hall), who speaks about his career and how it's changed over the last 20 years while demonstrating a few quick cuts. (Screenshot #2)

  • Opening Night At The Vista (7:07) - Random moments from a 70mm showing at Hollywood's historic movie theater complete with poster hanging, loading a massive film reel, and fan interviews. (Screenshot #5)

One Battle After Another 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another fits right in with his diverse body of work, yet it still feels like bold new territory for the celebrated writer-director. Its subject matter may prove divisive to some for clear-cut reasons, but it's an objectively well-made film with great performances, unforgettable moments, and a few enormously entertaining stretches that mostly keep its formidable runtime at bay. Warner Bros.' belated but welcome 4K/Blu-ray Limited Edition Steelbook finally adds some much-needed bonus features (and very good ones at that) in addition to both formats in collectible packaging... so if you can track down this bad boy, pick it up ASAP. Highly Recommended.
