Old 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Martin Liebman October 21, 2021

Universal and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive UHD SteelBook release for Director M. Night Shyamalan's 2021 film 'Old.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Old 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  2.5 of 5

Universal's glossy-smooth SteelBook will show some handling fingerprints. The front depicts an hourglass, filled with bodies tumbling into a pile at the bottom. The film's title appears on the left-hand side below center. This is a very simple black-and-white image. The rear panel is a mirror image with a larger pile of bodies at the bottom. The usual cluster of logos and legalese appear in white across the bottom. The spine is white with the film's title center. A small Universal logo, curiously oriented vertically rather than horizontally, appears at the bottom.

Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a top-down view of the victims stranded on the beach; blank space fills much of the frame where the sand would be, the steep cliffs fill the bottom quarter or so, and the victims are gathered together on the left side.

Old 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.5 of 5

This is a classy SteelBook for one of the more thought-provoking films of the past few years. The UHD looks and sounds great and the supplements are fine. Highly recommended.
